41: Serena – Space

Serena POV:

I collapse into the bed. Frustrated at Diesel and how he reacts. I understand though, he was hurt over and over by everyone he loved. So his reaction is to expect the worst from people.

All I wanted was a day without the shit, but it has come just as quickly as the morning sun rises. Part of me wants to hide away in here, just pretend the world doesn’t exist.

Actually, I feel like screaming and killing Diesel, he is so blinded by his own past, his own pain and fears he hasn’t even realised or thought how I feel.

Jake is still out there. Fear burns through me and has since the moment I thought I could be pregnant. Every day the past is on replay, and with how volatile Diesel is, I am afraid of the ending.

Sure he wouldn’t hurt me on purpose, but I have seen how quickly he loses control, how angry he gets and forgets to get all the information. Like today.

He just assumed it was Jessies, assumed that it meant I knew and kept it hidden from him. He doesn’t know me, that is clear. We need to remove ourselves from the drama, and find out who we are.

Only then can I say for sure I will marry him, as Diesel has so many sides hidden away that keep showing up it scares me to consider who he might be.

Reluctantly I climb out of bed and shower, my mind trying to focus on work, that is my escape right now. I find myself spending an hour getting ready, yet fear creeps back in, I am pregnant. That is a weakness everyone in the city will want to use.

Many like Jake would willing to hurt me and threaten the baby to take everything. How do I continue knowing the risks?

Diesel POV:

I feel angry at myself, if I could beat myself up physically I would. I saw the fear and pain in her eyes but was so consumed I didn’t think. I have made a million mistakes, and somehow she is still here.

I wouldn’t be. I don’t deserve her and I know I fucked up. Walking out I grab some things, rushing back. Getting into her place I hear her moving around the bedroom. Kneeling by the door I wait, praying she forgives me.

The door begins to open and I watch as she appears, her eyes on me full of confusion.

“I’m sorry. I am a fucking jerk! I keep pushing myself to the front of my mind and everyone to the back, and I was blind. I don’t want to leave Serena, I don’t want to lose you but everything is a fucking mess. It’s all crazy and I can’t seem to get my feet back on the ground.”

I hold up the flowers.

“I deserve worse than you have ever given any man. I accept that, and I am willing for you to hurt me in every way possible if it proves to you I didn’t mean it.”

“Diesel, I have work to do.” She steps around me.

“Please, even if we talk for two minutes in between you seeing people, please Serena. I am literally on my knees trying to sort this.” I stay looking at her.

“Diesel, for now just work. If you want to talk we will talk later, it is the weekend, you have the whole weekend to talk. Don’t make this a fight.”

She looks at me, clearly deflated from everything.

“Okay, but promise this weekend, just us two, away from everything.” We need this time to ourselves.

“I will agree, but I am busy in the morning, so keep that in mind.” I watch as she finishes talking and walks out. Moving I go to the garage and work, yet my mind can’t focus.

That then means I mess up every single thing. All I want is to wrap my arms around Serena, yet I saw in her eyes she is distancing herself. I don’t know why, that’s a lie, I do. I am why. I can’t help but feel frustrated and hateful towards everyone who ever hurt us.

Yet I am thankful as it is those same people and events that dragged us together. I must lose the whole day just thinking over everything. Trying to work out my words so I don’t say anything wrong.

All I do know is I love Serena, and I would be willing to give Jessie up to the worst of people right now if it proves to Serena she is the most important person in my life.

“Hey.”

Turning I look at Rooster.

“You look worse than yesterday, now what?” He sits down looking at me.

“I fucked everything up Rooster. Serena is going to run, and I can’t blame her.”

He laughs slightly. “Doubtful, and the baby won’t be yours if Jessie is pregnant Diesel.”

“Not that!” I shout at him, his head tilts in confusion. “I found a positive test in Serena’s bin, I literally ripped her apart with words, accusing her of hiding Jessie’s secrets. It was hers Rooster! Serena is fucking pregnant and I was too blind to see the panic and hurt in her eyes. She literally threw me out of the room and locked the door.”

Hell, saying it out loud makes me sound like an even bigger ass.

“She will forgive you. Here.” I watch as he moves, removing a key from his set he hands me it. “You know how beautiful, peaceful and secluded the place is. Take a break and take Serena. No city, no people, no Jessie.”

I look at the key, it is a small cabin. Hidden away that many don’t even know exists. It’s the perfect escape we both need.

“If she agrees.” I don’t feel like she will. Something tells me today she will be planning her escape from me.

“She will. Diesel, she was still there today after everything yesterday. Just go slow, stop rushing before you two even truly know who you are.” I watch as he stands and walks away, and he is right, I don’t know who Serena is, not really.

She doesn’t know me and how can she when I don’t even know who I am anymore?

42: Serena – Intruder

Serena POV:

I find myself trying to distract myself from everything. Diesel has messaged and said he will pick me up tomorrow. Apparently, he is giving me space until then.

So, that means no Diesel tonight, which feels weird, we have spent every night together since we slept together almost. He is right though, we need a break from each other.

We’re the cause, the reason we fight so much. I use the time to work and plan what I want to say as I know if I don’t nothing will get solved. After finishing work I go home, and just hide away. Trying not to think about the mess that no doubt is waiting for us.

If Jessie is pregnant and Diesel is the dad, then what? Part of me hopes it is a lie, just so I can relax and know he isn’t. How will it work? Jessie seems crazy, and that isn’t something I want around me. I somehow manage to fall asleep.

Waking a message from Diesel tells me to pack a weekend bag. I guess that means we’re not staying here? As I get ready, I glance at the ring on my finger. That feels like a mistake, one that I want to take back. Maybe I can?

After packing the bag I go to my office and sit down.

The knocking has me calling out inviting them in. I watch as Jessie walks in. She is not meant to be here.

“Can we talk?” She sits down, and I guess I can’t refuse now.

“What are you wanting to say, Jessie?”

“I was hoping you would talk to Diesel, I’m pregnant and he is been a dick.”

I nod, and try to smile at her.

“Maybe if you showed him proof you were pregnant he wouldn’t be so against it?” I try to staying calm.

“I shouldn’t need to! Are you really taking his side just because you’re fucking him?”

“Jessie. You and Diesel are nothing to do with me. Me and Diesel are nothing to do with you. The fact is, you told him you’re pregnant and refuse to prove it. How can he trust you after how crazy you have acted?”

She doesn’t reply, just stares at me.

“If that is all, I have things to get sorted for a meeting.” I wait, expecting her to go instead she reaches out and moves things, my hand going to stop her too late.

“Planning a baby yourselves? I guess that means you will want him to hate me.”

“Jessie I am not planning anything, no planning is needed. Now leave, if you want to sort things, see Diesel.” I point to the door, calling Dwayne through. I feel evil though, having him come in to drag her out after everything.

“Just leave Jessie. The issue is you and Diesel, it has nothing to do with me right now.”

“He proposed?” Her eyes widen. “Wait.” She laughs. “I get it, he got you pregnant and felt like he had to propose.” She laughs and Dwayne stares at me shocked.

“One, yes he got ME pregnant, I have proof, do you, Jessie? Two, he proposed before I told him. So it wasn’t for that reason. Now leave, as I am sure Dwayne doesn’t want to have to drag you out screaming.”

“I will.” Dwayne glares at her. I watch her stand and storm past him, the door slamming.

“Look, for now, say nothing Dwayne. I need time to process everything. I need this weekend to talk to Diesel. Then hopefully we have a plan.”

“I wouldn’t speak, you should know that Serena, congrats though, on both.” Smiling he walks out. Two laters later I get a message cancelling the meeting. So all the work was for nothing, but it was a perfect escape from everything.

Packing everything away I hear the knock, calling them through I watch as Mrs Angestie walks in.

“Miss Pierce.” She holds out her hand, shaking it I smile.

“You caught me just in time, I was getting ready to leave, how can I help you?” She is someone I cleared the debt of. It had been passed on through people in her family and in no way connected to her.

“I wanted to warn you.”

I look shocked. “About what?”

“I don’t know who it was. I was in the restaurant and heard someone talking about taking you, making sure you sign over the city and disappear.”

“You have no idea who it was?”

“No, it was the launch of Saltino Delincio, the restaurant was full, I tried to hear them, but all I know is it was a man and woman.”

“Thank you, I will look into it.” I watch as she leaves, Dwayne walks in.

“Diesel should be here soon.”

“This weekend while I am gone, find out who was at the launch of Saltino Delincio. Once you get a list of names, see if any stand out. Get any CCTV you can from them as well, see if you can see a couple talking about me and making me disappear.”

His eyes widen.

“You can’t go alone this weekend!”

“I will be with Diesel, no one knows about the place Dwayne, I am safer there than here. Just find out what you can for when I get back please.”

“Are you back tomorrow?”

“No, I cancelled everything I had planned on Monday, I plan to be back Monday night, a lot needs to be sorted. I just need you to find out who it is please.” He nods, and I watch as Diesel appears.

“Ready?” He smiles at me.

“Yes, let’s go.” Walking out I don’t miss the look from Dwayne that says I am crazy, but I know Diesel won’t let anyone hurt me.

We stay quiet on the ride there, and I know I need to tell him about Jessie, but it is going to be an argument, as we get closer I decide to tell him.

“Jessie came by today.”

He turns, staring at me.

“She knows I am pregnant. She also saw the ring so knows we’re engaged. She wasn’t happy. I told her to speak to you about her being pregnant not me.”

“That is fine.” He smiles gently as he stops the car, getting out we walk into a small cabin, it looks quiet. After getting settled we sit together, the silence lasts for too long.

“I thought I knew you Diesel, but every day I see a side to you I never knew existed.”

He stares at me clearly shocked, but I don’t stop.

“You are calm Diesel, then suddenly you explode, you don’t think or ask questions. You jump in, accuse, scream and shout. There is no warning, it is like a bomb going off. I fear you in those moments Diesel even if I don’t show it.”

Turning he looks at me.

“I would never hurt you. Or any woman, ever.”

“Maybe not physically but mentally you do Diesel, and I need to know what causes it? What causes you to go crazy so quickly?”

He sits, clearly considering it.

“I want to push you away Serena. So I guess in my head if I flip, don’t talk, don’t ask questions and just go crazy it will work. I am petrified the past will happen again, so making you hate me will make it easier.” His words are sincere but it doesn’t help.

“Diesel I can not bring a baby into this. Every time something new happens, I think what will Diesel do? How bad will it be this time?”

“What if I try and stop? If I go crazy, forget or start shouting, make me see. I don’t do it on purpose babes, I literally am blind in those moments. We both have a lot to learn about each other, and I need to apologise.”

“For what Diesel?” I want to see what he apologises for.

“A lot, but mostly the way I acted when I found that test, how I reacted when you said it was yours. I look back and now I see the fear in your eyes. Pain and fear over what happened before. Then there I was shouting at you no doubt bringing back those memories.”

“As bad as it sounds Diesel, you are right. Your shouting and losing it at that point made me think, what if. Made me consider if you could lose control quickly and lash out, I know you wouldn’t, but in my mind it is possible.”

I watch as he moves, pulling me into him. His arms cuddle me.

“How about we talk, about ourselves, everything, no more secrets?”

I nod in agreement and find the weekend disappearing. Diesel telling me so much about him I never knew, just as I tell him about me. It is something we needed. We sit and talk, eat and talk, go out for a walk, and yes talk.

The weekend has been amazing and I feel like when we go home tomorrow I can say I know who Diesel is.

I can’t help but smile, I feel myself falling asleep against him as we watch the film.

Waking, I hear hushed voices. I go to snuggle against Diesel again but don’t feel him. Moving, I sit up and look around, it is late, but Diesel isn’t here. The fire is out as well. The small alcove is now empty of wood, so no doubt that is where Diesel disappeared to.

The feel of a hand covering my mouth has me trying to scream as I feel my body pulled towards the back door of the cabin. Kicking, I try and fight against them, I free myself and bite against their hand, yet it is too late, I feel something hit me and the room becomes black.

Where is Diesel?

43: Diesel – Numbers

Diesel POV:

Waking, I move carefully trying not to wake her. The room now beginning to get chilly. I was meant to refill the alcove with wood. Grabbing my jacket I walk out and begin to gather more wood.

The only downfall to this place, the fire needs wood constantly or it dies and the cold builds. Other than that though it is perfect. The silence and only sounds of wild animals can be heard.

We needed this weekend, I learnt more about Serena, but I also learnt more about me, things I didn’t know.

I can’t help but smile and feel happy, all I want now is peace, but I know peace for us will never happen, or if it does, it won’t last long. Serena has the city, and nothing will make her give that up, not even a peaceful life with me.

It is something I need to learn to live with.

Walking back in I see the sofa empty, placing the wood on the alcove I call out to Serena, stopping as I see the backdoor open slightly, my eyes glance down and see her shoe. Panic builds as I rush out, calling her name but there is no sight of her.

Rushing back inside I grab my phone, getting in the car I start the engine, waiting for an answer.

“Diesel? It’s fucking 4 am, this better be good.”

“Rooster, she is gone! Who knew about this place Rooster, I need names, all of them now.” I feel the panic rise in me.

“Look, get home, I will speak to you when you get here and we will sort it. Straight here Diesel, and drive carefully for fuck sake!” He hangs up, but I can’t just drive and not do anything.

Hitting another name I wait.

“Diesel?”

“Serena is missing, I went out to grab wood, came back in and the back door was open.”

“I warned her!”

“What do you mean Dwayne?” Warned her what?

“She was told someone planned to do it, she got me to check the info and see if I could find the video. I got a list of guests.”

“Did you find out who?” If he knows I can get her back.

“No, cameras were switched off. I will call the guys, and start searching.”

“Send me that list of names.” I will find her.

“Diesel, what is your plan?”

“Right now my plan is to get back there. Then I start at the top of that list and make sure if someone knows they speak. I do it alone, or with support, but I am doing it Dwayne and I don’t care who on that list I need to hurt, I do it my way.” I hang up, concentrating on the road.

I should have known, as soon as I let myself relax it happened. While I am trying not to panic, I can’t stop it.

It takes me less than an hour to get back, I don’t bother with Roosters, instead, I go straight for Dwayne. As I walk in the building I see he has everyone there already, maps spread out and him telling them where to search.

“List.”

“Diesel, you can’t hurt everyone.”

“Watch me! List Dwayne or I hurt you to get to it.” I hold out my hand waiting. I watch as he nods and hands me the list.

“Take one of her cars.” He looks at me and I laugh.

“I’m on my bike, if you want to give a guy the list, they can follow in a car, but I’m on my bike.” I don’t wait for his answer and I walk out, going to where she stores her cars I get on my bike. I have begun leaving one here now. I am glad I did.

I see a team of guys jumping in a car, clearly with the same list that I have. I go to the first person, not bothering to knock I kick against the door and watch it swing open.

The guy jumps up shocked, stepping back and holding his hands up.

“I didn’t know, I swear it wasn’t me!” He screams, trying to escape me as I grab him.

“No one knows! So how do you know?” Moving I throw him against a chair, my fist hitting his face.

“I swear I didn’t know! A few people at the event mentioned they heard about it, but no one thought it was fucking true!” His hand moves to hold his nose and try to stop the bleeding. Punching him again he groans.

“Then let this be a warning. I don’t care who is on that list, man or woman, I won’t stop until someone tells me who it is. News travels fast in this city, and you’re the first warning.”

Turning I walk out, climbing on the bike I go to the next place. Three hours later I am halfway through the list and exhausted but I don’t plan to stop. Of course, I didn’t hit any of the women, that is fucked up. If a man wanted to, he could stand up and fight back, he would have a chance, but most women wouldn’t.

So instead I find their weaknesses and exploit them. Smiling at the next name I go to the club. Walking in I watch as everyone stays quiet. I see Evan look towards the fire exit, moving I rush to block it, grabbing him I throw him back.

“What do you know?”

“Well, the princess won’t be ruling the city for long, that is for sure.” He laughs, moving I punch him.

“Who took her?”

“You kill me you will never know.” He smiles smugly. “I was expecting your visit, after standing right there watching them talk and listening, I couldn’t wait to watch her empire fall down.”

Moving I punch him repeatedly and he laughs. Everyone sat quietly, no one moving. I grab him and drag him to a chair, tying him down.

“How many holes until you give in and speak?” I hold the gun in one hand, the dagger in another. “Where is she?”

“By now hopefully six feet under.”

Pulling back the hammer, I shoot, watching as it hits his knee, screaming, he thrashes in the chair staring at me shocked.

“Where?”

I watch as he shakes his head, moving, I swing the dagger down on his shoulder, he screams, and honestly looks shocked.

“Why are you surprised?” He honestly thought I wouldn’t?

“Serena fine, but you? Any guy you made go missing for Jessie was dead quickly. You fucking shot me and stabbed me!” He looks down at his knee. “Shit!”

“Do I continue?” Moving the gun to his other knee I watch his head shake.

“No! Maybe had they known you would take on the city they wouldn’t have done this!” He groans, and the club is still silent.

“So who?” I watch as he shakes his head, moving I place the gun against his shoulder.

“Tell him! Evan just fucking tell him!” I hear someone shout but keep my eyes on him.

“Justin, he was the one telling people. He said he was there when the original two were discussing it. He knows who but wouldn’t say!”

Leaning forward I nod. “If I find out you knew more, guarantee I will be back, and there won’t be a part of your body without a hole in it!” Turning I walk out and get on my bike, as I get to Justins I once again see the car following.

Walking into the scrap yard I go straight to where Justin is, he knows me but I don’t care right now. I see him trying to run, grabbing him I drag him back.

“I will speak! Don’t fucking do to me what you have everyone else, I swear I will speak.”

“You fucking knew!” I punch him.

“I’m sorry! I didn’t think you two were serious. I will tell you.”

“Speak.” I stand and wait.

“I guess the fact you’re here means you’re working down that list, go to the page of plus ones.”

“Fuck go here or there, tell me! I swear it will be your blood covering my hands if you don’t.”

“Her ex! He was there, he was the one planning it.”

“And the woman?” Dwayne said there was a woman.

“Come on Diesel, think! Women fucking love Serena or most anyway, only one really fucking hates her right now.” I stand looking at him confused.

“Too close to home Diesel? Hell who wants to even consider someone they loved and grew up around would do it, but she is.”

“Jessie wouldn’t.” No, I feel my head shaking.

“Come on Diesel, I have heard. Who knew about that cabin? Think about it. Granted though from what I saw Jake didn’t really give her much of a choice, she thinks she is saving you and Rooster.”

I want to argue, but how the hell can I? It is Jessie, but would she really agree knowing Serena is pregnant after everything? Turning I don’t speak, I walk out and get on my bike. I need to go to Rooster, he is the only one who can get Jessie to give up the address.

After ten minutes I walk in, watching as he sits up looking at me confused.

“I was expecting you hours ago.”

“Don’t act calm and like you don’t know, where the fuck is she?”

“I don’t know, I haven’t seen or heard from her in days. She won’t answer me Diesel, I fucking tried. I found out an hour ago all the info and put the pieces together. She won’t answer me.”

“Then I will make her. Tell her, I am here with six guys and whatever Jake threatened her with will be nothing compared to when I finish if I don’t have the address.” I throw his phone at him.

“Diesel.” He looks at me shocked.

“Before you say we’re friends, that shit ended when Jessie took his fucking side and helped him take Serena, did you know? You offered the cabin!” I step back, realising now he did, why else would he offer it?

“No! Had Jessie told me, Diesel, I would have told her to let me die, I swear I didn’t know.”

I watch as he is doing whatever he is on his phone, a moment later he shakes his head.

“She said you wouldn’t.”

Snatching the phone I call her.

“Yes?” His voice is quiet.

“You took the only thing right now that I have left to live for, I don’t care how much me and your dad were friends, that ended when you took the one person I fucking love. If I don’t get that message within the next two minutes, you will be getting message after message of parts of his body cut off!” I scream and hang up, Rooster staring at me.

“I will do anything to find her.” I hope I don’t have to, but I will. Within a minute a message comes through with the address.

“Stay here, if I don’t call in ten minutes then you can leave, if I can she lied and he pays for it.” I walk out, this time getting in the car, no one arguing with me. I will get her back.

44: Serena – Double Blade

Serena POV:

The last few hours have been awful, Jake keeps hitting me because I refuse to leave Diesel and marry him instead. Maybe if I agreed I would be okay, but I can’t.

I can see Jessie is shocked, she didn’t expect this, but it is her fault. She went along with him, all because he promised I would be gone and she would get Diesel. I don’t even try and plead or beg him as I know from the past that won’t work.

Instead, I sit quietly, taking the hits when he gives them and acting like it is nothing. He seems to be getting more frustrated, his phone vibrating constantly.

“He is on the warpath!” He screams at Jessie. “You said he wouldn’t, what the hell?” He turns back to me, and I get ready for the next hit but his phone vibrates again.

“He’s taking over the city, fewer people are willing to stay quiet now.” He turns to Jessie and hits her.

“I thought he would just give up! I didn’t know at that point she was pregnant!” She looks at me and then at him.

“I’m getting a drink.” I watch as he walks out, but keeps us in his sight, I don’t even try and talk to her. I watch as she looks at her phone worried. Jake walks back through again.

Moving, I continue to pull against the rope, and each time it loosens slightly. They continue to argue and I watch as Jessie walks through to the kitchen.

“He will give up!” He looks at me and I don’t respond. Diesel won’t, not this time. He doesn’t know, and maybe that is my freedom?

“He already lost one baby Jake, he will kill to save another.” He looks at me shocked, I hear a gasp from Jessie and watch as Jake turns and pushes the door open to the kitchen. Moving I free my hands, looking for something I can use as a weapon.

I watch as he grabs Jessie’s phone.

“You idiot! You gave him the address.” He screams at her, and I stand. His eyes are now on me. “Leave! Now!” He roars at me, and I look at Jessie as he keeps a tight grip on her hair. I want to save her from him but I know how bad he is, and this is my only chance to save me and the baby.

She brought this upon herself. Rushing out I almost scream in pain. I feel like he broke my ankle, as I hobble down the road, I try and get a car to stop, but none seem to, no doubt they can’t even tell it is me. I keep going, struggling to walk and I hear a car stop beside me.

Turning I see one of my cars, I watch as Diesel gets out and pulls me into the car.

“Where is he?” He looks at me waiting.

“At the house. Jessie is there, I had to leave her.”

He doesn’t respond, just drives, he stops outside the house and looks at me.

“Stay in the car!” His words are fierce and I don’t argue.

Diesel POV- Revenge.

I stare at her shocked, her face is bloody with bruises and I can see she is struggling to walk. Fire burns within me as I step out of the car, not looking back. Walking into the house I see him standing behind Jessie holding her as a shield.

Laughing I shake my head. “Do you really think I won’t hurt her to get to you? She is nothing to me now.” I won’t, not really. Jessie looks at me shocked. I need her away from him, and if it takes pulling her by the hair I will.

It is less hurt than she will get from him right now. I watch as he pushes her to me, trying to run away. I reach around her, and grab him, pulling him back.

Throwing him to the ground I begin hitting him, Jessie screaming my name and trying to pull me away but everything is muffled, I keep hitting until my hands are too heavy to lift anymore.

Collapsing next to him I don’t move, I know he is dead, so now I guess I lose Serena, everyone knows I was out for blood, and there is no way she can make this disappear.

“DIESEL! You killed him.”

“Jessie go home before I kill you for this. Don’t speak to me again, I no longer know you and it is taking everything I have not to hurt you right now.” I don’t look up at her but hear her leave. Moving, I grab a glass and fill it, sitting down I drink the whiskey.

“Diesel.” I hear her voice, the voice of an angel.

“He won’t ever hurt you again.” The only words I can manage.

“Let’s get home.” She stands looking at me, waiting.

“This needs sorting, there is no hiding this.”

“Diesel, we are going home, these guys will clear this up and make sure the police leave you alone, please come home.” She stands looking at me. Nodding I stand up.

Wrapping my arm around her I help her into the car and sit in the back, letting someone else drive.

“I’m sorry. I should have thought when I went to get wood. I should have stopped, not kept going, but it was just black, darkness.” I glance at my hands. I never killed a man before, not like that. Shooting them is quick, easy and not much pain.

I now remember watching as his face drained of life. Knowing I was the one who took it.

“Don’t apologise, you have nothing to apologise for.” She cuddles against me and as much as I want to cuddle her back, all I can smell is him. She for some reason has one of his shirts on? I will ask about it later.

Stopping at the building I help her in, Dwayne stares at us shocked. He was staying here, ensuring everything went as planned. It did, and my plan worked, his plan didn’t, and no one had even gotten close by the time I had.

We don’t speak, I just help Serena back to her place, removing the clothes we’re wearing I throw them in the bin, pulling her into the shower with me, my hands wash her body, watching as the blood begins to disappear from my hands and body.

I watch as the blood disappears from her, slowly seeing the cuts and bruises, but nothing too bad, sure her foot is likely broken, but she doesn’t look too bad. I wait until the water runs clean then help her out of the shower. Wrapping the towel around her I pull her through to the bedroom.

Helping her get dried and dressed, I watch as she lies in bed and falls asleep. I want to force her to get up, get checked out but I know it will be an argument. The quiet knock has me walk through, and I see Dwayne with someone.

“The doctor, she won’t go to a hospital Diesel, but he has everything he needs to check her and the baby.”

“You knew?” I thought no one knew.

“I was here when Jessie showed up and found out. I haven’t told anyone but this guy.”

“And I will not speak! I swear, no one will be told by me.” The doctor instantly holds his hands up.

“She’s through there.” I watch the doctor walk off the way I point, sitting down Dwayne sits opposite me.

“How is Jessie?”

Looking at him I shake my head. “I don’t fucking care right now Dwayne. If you want to know go see her, but she isn’t allowed anywhere near here or Serena.”

“Sorry, yeah, I know that was fucked up. She was still like your sister.” He looks at me.

“A sister I fucked and caused this. Right now I don’t see her as anything but someone I want to hurt and get revenge on. If I hadn’t fucked her this wouldn’t have happened.” Why did I give in?

“It would have Diesel, nothing you did would prevent this. Jake got to her and she was fooled.”

“Stop defending her Dwayne!” I can’t deal with people defending her right now.

I watch as he glances down to his phone.

“Rooster is here, apparently he needs to see you.”

“Don’t let him up! Stay here with her, I will get rid of him.” Standing I go down, Rooster stood by the door and he looks a mess. I want to hate him but I can’t.

“Diesel.” He shakes his head as I walk to him. “I’m sorry, what Jessie caused is messed up, I just wanted to say thank you, I can’t live without Jessie, so thank you for not hurting her.” He looks at me.

“No matter what Jessie did to me Rooster, I couldn’t hurt her, hell I want to but I can’t. Make sure she stays the hell away though or I will let Serena hurt her.” I don’t want her as a risk.

“You’re not the dad, we spoke when she showed up, or rather I shouted and lost it. She told me she took the morning-after pill Diesel, the baby is Dwayne’s. There’s no way it is yours.”

“So all this was just a way for her to hurt me? What, make me think I had a baby coming then her tell me she lied?” I don’t know what is worse right now.

“No, she thought you believing the baby was yours would make you go back. She knows Diesel, I know I said it before, but she knows she fucked up now. When she found out Serena was pregnant she tried to back out but it was too late. She never wanted Serena or the baby hurt.”

“Don’t Rooster, don’t stand here and defend her, give excuses or other shit.” I don’t want his words.

“Yeah, sorry. I hope she is okay, Jessie told me he planned to keep hurting her until she gave in. So I hope she and the baby are okay, I will see you around.” He turns to walk away and stops.

“I still see us as friends Diesel and word around the city is there is no way you will let Serena run the city, and if anything people fear you more than they feared her or her dad.” He turns and walks away again.

I did what I needed to ensure I got her back. I wouldn’t do that just for debt, or money owed. I just wanted Serena and the baby back. Maybe I did mess up? Maybe I should have just done what Dwayne said, took his plan and stuck to it?

45: Serena – Handing Over Trust

Serena POV:

I wake up to see a cast on my foot, Diesel sat beside me in bed, just staring at the wall.

“What happened?” I point to my foot, I can’t remember going to a hospital.

“Dwayne got your doctor here. You seemed to sleep through everything. The baby is fine, here.” He holds out the phone, a small video playing. I feel myself relax, the baby is fine, and that is all that I care about.

“I’m sorry Diesel, for not telling you what was threatened. I thought I would be safe if you had known you wouldn’t have left me alone.”

“This isn’t your fault.” How can she think it was?

“Diesel, I should know not to pass it off as nothing. I watched my father lock this place down when there were threats. I just didn’t want to lose our weekend together.”

“Let’s leave it for now. Concentrate on getting better, that is all that is important right now. I have a replacement at my garage so I don’t need to leave your side.”

“I need to get things sorted Diesel, yesterday, everything. I can’t just leave everything a mess.” I go to move, but his hand stops me.

“Already sorted. With the help of Dwayne, he helped me get the news out that no one is to speak. Police had no issues pretending there was no evidence or witnesses. Everything is sorted, so just relax.”

As he says the word my body relaxes and I hear the knocking. It feels strange, I should be the one fixing the mess.

“I’m answering it Diesel, if you fight me on it I will scream.” I go to move, expecting him to refuse, but instead, he helps me.

Opening the door Dwayne smiles at me.

“I was just coming to update Diesel on a few things.” He looks past me to Diesel and I feel rage full me.

“Well, I am up now so you can update me!” I step back and walk through and sit.

“Sorry, yes.” Dwayne follows me, sitting he explains everything, about all the clean-ups he had arranged after Diesel’s rampage, I sit and listen, shocked by what I hear. I understand he lost it with Jake, but the others?

“Also, you were out of it, you missed the meeting with Mrs Evans, she refused to rearrange, so Diesel sorted things with her.”

Turning I look at Diesel.

“I will leave.” I hear Dwayne quickly escape.

“You’re just coming in and taking over!” I stare at him.

“You were out of it, as he said. He told me how important Mrs Evans was and I thought I would help. I’m sorry for thinking of you.” He looks at me annoyed.

“It isn’t just Mrs Evans, Diesel! You took control of my guys, and lead a search, purposely tortured people!”

“You were gone, and I won’t apologise, I would do it again and more if I had to. I don’t want your city, Serena, I want you!” He stands and walks to me, kneeling before me. “All I ever wanted was you, I don’t care about the city, I couldn’t give a damn if it burnt down, if I had you that is all that matters.”

I lower my head. “I’m sorry, this won’t be easy Diesel, I know you don’t care about the city but I also know how far people will go to get it, and my mind tells me you’re the same.” I know he isn’t. He proved that the way he reacted when they took me proves that.

“I just want you and our baby safe, but I want you happy and feeling free. I don’t know how this will work Serena, honestly. I feel like I need to be by your side every minute you work to ensure you and the baby are safe.”

“No one would try to hurt me Diesel, Dwayne and everyone are there.”

“Some would, all it will take is a small gap. One small gap and they would do it, I don’t want to lose you, Serena.” His hand grips my chin.

His lips press against mine, moaning, I wrap my arms around his body.

“No, no. You need to heal, but then yes. We need to talk about this Serena, are you really happy to risk our baby, working? Once people know they have your weakness, and it is easy to get to you.”

“What would you suggest Diesel?” I look at him waiting.

“I don’t know. It doesn’t feel right saying Dwayne or another guard has to sit beside you everywhere you go. It doesn’t feel right telling you to find a replacement either.”

“You are right Diesel. I don’t want to risk our baby, I was thinking about it before. Unsure of how to solve the problem. I know though I need to trust you, not assume you’re like everyone else.”

“So what are you thinking?”

What am I thinking? Right now I am thinking I am crazy again. “You join me, Diesel, then, when I feel I need to I step back. This is not me giving you the city Diesel, this is you in a way babysitting it until after the baby comes.”

I hear him laugh, he is looking at me like I am crazy, maybe I am?

“I don’t want the city, Serena. I don’t want the shit that comes along with it.”

“You won’t have the city Diesel, but I can’t give it up. I can’t trust anyone else to take over for a long period of time. I can only trust certain people to take over for a few days.” I need to trust Diesel.

“I don’t know.” He looks at me worried.

“Diesel, I briefly looked at my phone, I panicked yes, but it is clear you have the respect of those in the city. Many won’t touch you, many already see you as someone who will be taking control of the city.”

He doesn’t reply, just looks at me.

“We will be getting married Diesel, how will it work if you refuse any part of the city?”

I watch as he nods, he knows I am right. He can’t hide and pretend like the city isn’t anything to do with him.

“Okay, so I will join you, then take over when you feel you need to take a step back. You can do work from here Serena with your guards, but travelling to other people’s businesses and such after so long that is a risk.”

“And after the baby comes?” I look at him, as much as I love ruling this city, and fighting to ensure people realise it is mine, I will be grateful when the burden isn’t solely mine.

“We will see, but right now, you need to heal. So until you can walk on your foot properly, you have no choice but to trust me and Dwayne, can you do that?” He looks at me waiting. I know he is right, I can barely walk on my foot, that is a target.

I nod and smile. “I will try and trust you.” At this moment I realise how much trust he has put in me, and I need to do the same. Even if every part of me is screaming this is a trap, I know it isn’t.

As he leans forward, gentle anticipation fills the air, time seems to slow down. As our eyes meet, we exchange unspoken words. His warm breath brushes against my lips, and a shiver runs down my spine as I feel it.

Finally, his soft lips meet mine, my hands grasp his shirt, the world fades away and all I feel exists is him, and his kiss which is filled with passion. His kiss is intense and tender, making my heart quicken, With each passing second the kiss deepens, and I struggle to remember the reality of the world around us.

As I break away from his kiss, longing and determination fill my eyes. I lean back slightly, my chest rising and falling with each breath that I take. My body still trembles and longs for him to touch me. Pushing the hair away from my face I try to steady myself.

He is right, right now I need to heal, and things need to be fixed. I see the same in his eyes, longing and need, but he is masking it just as I am. With a gentle smile, he leans forward, his lips pressing against my forehead.

“I will fucking miss you today. Rest up, I will do whatever is needed, you just need to wait here for me.” He stands and disappears out of the door, and the moment he does, I fall backwards onto the sofa. The intensity in that kiss was explosive!

It was like my body and mind had finally let go of the control I gripped onto, and all I wanted was for him to touch me, everywhere, over and over. I know I need to wait for that though. The thought of sitting here waiting though, alone, sucks.

46: Diesel – Taking On Her Role

Diesel POV:

I lose my week doing everything that Serena usually would be doing. I don’t mind though, I know while I am out doing these things she is safe, away from anyone who may want to cause her to hurt.

Dwayne has been at my side constantly, I guess to ensure everything goes to plan. I have no idea how Serena ran this city, who she knew, trusted, or who the troublemakers were. So having Dwayne there was a benefit as he could guide me when I was lost.

This week I have seen those who respect Serena, and then I have seen the other side, the ones who were just waiting for a chance to make her fall or wait for someone to come take over. Many expressed to me how they knew she would fail and hand over the city eventually.

They were shocked when I explained it was her city, she simply was recovering. They will learn not to try to make Serena sound weak around me.

I find my week mostly explaining the situation to people, that Serena is healing and I am merely a stand-in. I keep it quiet that she is pregnant, as I know she would rather people not know. Most of the men were not inclined to argue with me over the rules, but I notice the women are different, many attempting to get my attention with their flirty looks and small touches. Their efforts go in vain as I only desire the attention of one woman.

I have seen the extent of the risk that she is under when she leaves the compound, certain individuals in the city seem far too happy to believe Serena is no longer in charge. It is evident that some people were waiting for an opportunity to make a move.

Bidding Mr Grayson fair well I walk towards the car, Dwayne’s laughs loud as he follows.

“Oh, he wasn’t happy.”

I laugh and nod.

“You should have maybe warned us you two had history.” He looks at me as we get in the car and all I can do is shrug.

“We don’t have history, me and his lovely wife do.” I have to admit, he never thought he would see me again, but now he has to accept he will see me a lot more.

“So come on, as not much was explained, the story?” Dwayne looks at me waiting.

“I was hiring someone to answer calls and things. A woman called Opal came for an interview. I did the interviews in the garages. We got to talking and well one thing led to another pretty quickly, next thing we were both naked on the garage floor covered in grease and well Mr Grayson walked in and that was the moment I found out she was married.”

I shrug my shoulders like it was nothing.

“I learnt from that moment on to check if a woman is married.”

“Now I get it, when you walked in he didn’t seem bothered, not until he recognised you and his lovely wife smiled and practically clapped her hands seeing you.”

“She didn’t get to for long though.” No, as soon as Mr Grayson noticed it was me, he pushed his wife from the room and told her to stay away.

“Anyway, if I should warn you about every woman I fucked, or every guy I fucked over we will need a hell of a lot of paper.” The list isn’t small.

The car falls quiet as he gets closer to the compound.

“Have you heard from Jessie?”

I turn and stare at Dwayne shocked.

“No.” My word is harsh.

“Yeah, sorry.” Dwayne’s words are quiet.

He should know what Rooster told me, but it is Jessie who should tell him. I feel bad that he has no idea yet.

“Look, I plan to go see Rooster, so why not come along and when I talk to Rooster you can talk to Jessie?” It will give him a chance to sort things.

“You mean I come and be your shield from her?” Dwayne snickers.

“If it works yes. Have you not messaged her?” I thought he would have by now.

“No, I was pretty brutal when I found out everything. I’m surprised I’m still alive.” He laughs looking at me.

“Dwayne, I fucked up. I saw you liked her, I knew you two were dating to some extent and I fucked her, which backfired and caused all this shit. I wouldn’t hurt you.” I was the one who caused the crap, I should have never slept with Jessie.

“I accept I am a jealous fool, and it wasn’t I was jealous she had you. I was jealous she got that comfort and security from you when it was always me. So I told myself to try, and then afterwards I regretted it but told myself to try. It was clear she had no plans to though.”

“Either way, I’m sorry. I guess I will come with you and apologise for the way I acted.”

“Hell no! Dwayne, do not apologise. You were right. She was with you, fucking other guys, left you, fucked me, then came back to you, then left you and begged me to go back. You were right, you were stopping yourself from getting hurt, so don’t apologise and give her the easy way out.”

I don’t know why I even bothered saying that, I can see he will apologise. The car stops and we walk in, I see Serena in her office, and two guards standing close to her. She looks up at me, clearly annoyed.

“Really?” She points between the guards.

“It keeps you safe. Now, I am going to see Rooster, Dwayne is joining me as he wants to hopefully talk to Jessie, what are you doing? Coming or staying?” I stand waiting.

“Coming, I need to talk to Rooster myself.” She skips past me, a smile on her face and it has me worried. Dwayne laughs seeing her happiness.

“I would just sleep in the cage tonight, Diesel, save yourself from her while you can.” We both laugh at his words as he gets into the car. We stay quiet as we get taken to Roosters.

As we arrive at his place, I step out of the car and pause before knocking on the door. It doesn’t feel right to just walk in anymore, even though we used to walk into each other’s places all the time. I linger for a moment until the door finally opens. Rooster glances at me and then looks past me to see everyone else.

“So, what’s the plan? You here to claim my house and the clubs as payback?” He gazes at me, clearly worn down by all the recent drama.

“Rooster, that’s not why I’m here. I came to talk to you. I don’t want to lose you as a friend,” I assure him earnestly. He’s the only person who truly knows and understands me.

“Yet you brought reinforcements,” he says, gesturing behind me.

“No, Serena wanted to have a conversation with you, and Dwayne hopes that Jessie is here to speak with her.” I remain standing, waiting for his response. It feels off, as Rooster has never left me standing on his doorstep before.

Maybe this was a mistake?

“I’m sorry, this was clearly a mistake, I will leave.” I turn to walk away, feeling hurt that I have lost the one friend I had in this shitty life.

I hear his laugh and pause.

“God, you’re still as easy to wind up, get in your idiot.” I look at him shocked as he laughs, walking past him I call him a jerk and punch him on the arm.

He turns and looks towards Dwayne. “She is upstairs in her room, she hasn’t left it.” I watch as Dwayne disappears in the direction Rooster pointed.

“I came to apologise, for what I said and how I acted.” It was messed up.

“Diesel no apology needed! I would break your legs in an instant if it got Jessie back, so I understand. Jessie used to be at the top for you, so I know how much you put into protecting those you love, so I hold no bad feelings towards you.”

“So, we’re still good?”

He laughs and nods.

“We were never bad. Hell Diesel had you cut my other leg off, I would still be your friend as I know it wouldn’t be through pleasure.”

“Good to know.” We both laugh and talk for a short while, Dwayne walks down and out, and I look towards Rooster confused.

“Look, she will have likely told him she is ninety-nine per cent sure he is the dad but right now he needs space.” He shrugs his shoulders. “And you wanted me?” He looks towards Serena.

I feel like I should leave, and as much as I don’t want to see Jessie I have to.

“I am going to check on Jessie.” I smile at Serena and she nods, walking upstairs I hear her beginning to talk to Rooster but block out her words. I don’t need to hear them.

Knocking on the door slightly I wait.

“What?” Jessie’s voice quietly comes from the other side of the door, slowly opening it I peer around the door, she looks at me then looks away.

“You good?” I walk in and sit down.

“Do you even care?”

I stare at her shocked by her words.

“Jessie! You know I fucking do otherwise I wouldn’t be here now. I wanted to check you were fine, but if this is your attitude clearly I made the wrong choice.” I don’t want the shit again.

“Sorry, I’m sorry.” Her head falls and I watch as she cries, fighting against comforting her. “I didn’t know she was pregnant Diesel, he promised to make her walk from you. He said she loved him, I didn’t know he had made her lose a baby in the past, I didn’t know he would beat her.”

“Even if he didn’t, do you really think it was right to get someone to take her?”

“No, the thing is Diesel I don’t want you.”

I laugh, staring at her confused, why would she cause so much shit if she didn’t?

“I got so used to you being in my life, all I had to do was one text and you were there. I saw that disappear when you fell for Serena. All I have is my dad Diesel, no one else. He and you were the only people I ever had in this world.”

“You will still have me if you don’t fuck around again. Just promise me this shit is over.” I look at her waiting. Hoping that she agrees.

“It was over ages ago Diesel, I just couldn’t find a way out. Jake wouldn’t let me. I couldn’t lose my dad and you, and he knew that, so he used you two as a way to get me to help him.”

“And Dwayne?” He looked hurt when he left, I watch as she cries, and moving I comfort her.

“I like him so much Diesel, but I hurt him, and now I am waiting for him to hurt me back just because he can. I lost who I was, I found myself working for Serena, but then I went crazy and I know I did and I don’t deserve him.”

“Is he the dad?” I look at her waiting and watch as she nods.

“I never slept with the guy’s Diesel. I lied, there is only Dwayne who could be the dad, but I don’t deserve his support or anyone else’s.”

We talk for a while, and it feels like before, before the drama, before she went crazy and I have to admit I missed this.

47: Serena – Forgiveness

Serena POV:

Diesel walks away, leaving me alone with Rooster.

“I’m here to apologise,” I begin, my voice filled with remorse. “I considered trying to save her from Jake, but I couldn’t risk myself and the baby.”

Rooster looks at me, a mixture of surprise and concern on his face. “You have nothing to apologise for,” he says, his voice sincere.

“To you, I do,” I reply, my words filled with conviction. “You did nothing to hurt me, Rooster. Leaving your daughter in his hands could have put her life in danger. Diesel sees you as family, and I don’t want anything to jeopardise that. I don’t want to be the cause of any friction either.”

He listens attentively as I explain my reasoning. “Me and Diesel will never truly fall out, Serena. Despite everything you did for Jessie, I am disappointed in her behaviour, but I am also ashamed of everything she has done. Right now, she hates me, and I can’t blame her because I caused all of this.”

His words catch me off guard. “You are an amazing father, Rooster. Jessie will eventually realise how lucky she is to have a father like you, someone who is willing to sacrifice everything for her. After uncovering my father’s secrets and the ways he hurt me, I can see the kind of father you are, Rooster, and you are truly remarkable. You are not to blame in any way.”

“I’m sorry, Serena,” Rooster says sympathetically. “Family is meant to be there to support and help you, not drag you down and hurt you. But trust me, you will find someone in this world whom you can trust entirely, and you’ll realize that your father’s actions have no hold on your future.”

“I already have,” I reply softly.

Rooster laughs and nods in agreement. “Of course, Diesel. He is amazing, Serena. And I’m not saying that just as his friend, but as a father who watched his daughter fall apart when man after man hurt her. Diesel made her see that she was worthy of more. But I must warn you, Serena, he will try to push you away out of fear. So when he does, cling on to him.”

“Thank you, Rooster, for understanding,” I express my gratitude. “I think I need to speak to Jessie.”

He looks at me with worry in his eyes.

“Don’t worry, Rooster,” I reassure him. “I won’t shout or say anything bad. Right now, after everything she’s been through, she needs a woman to talk to, even if it’s the one she nearly killed.” I smile and make my way upstairs, hearing Jessie and Diesel talking as I approach her bedroom.

“Back to how it was before?” I hear hope in Jessie’s voice.

“Sure thing,” Diesel responds with a laugh. “Actually, I have a condition. Back to how it was before, but without you showing up drunk and stripping,” he adds playfully, and they both laugh.

“I was such a brat, but yes. Back to you being like my big brother who protects me, and I’ll keep my clothes on,” Jessie laughs, and Diesel joins in. They sound so happy now.

Knocking on the door, I enter the room, and Diesel looks at me anxiously. But he has nothing to worry about—I trust him.

“Ready to leave?” he asks, walking up to me, and I nod.

“Sure, I’ll meet you downstairs. Rooster wants to talk to you,” I say, knowing that Rooster doesn’t actually want to see him. But Diesel won’t argue if he knows that Rooster is allowing me to have this conversation with Jessie. Diesel gives me a brief kiss before walking out.

Now, I am face-to-face with Jessie, and I feel at a loss for words.

Jessie speaks first, her voice filled with remorse. “I’m sorry, Serena. If anything had happened to you or the baby, I wouldn’t forgive myself. I don’t blame you if you want to hurt me. I deserve it.”

She does deserve it, but I know that hurting her won’t solve anything. “I accept your apology, Jessie,” I say calmly. “You and Rooster mean a lot to Diesel, even after everything. So, I’m willing to forgive you and put it behind me for his sake. I’ve seen him struggling all week, battling with his feelings about not contacting Rooster. I don’t want to live a life where he resents me for keeping you apart.”

“Thank you,” Jessie murmurs, keeping her head down.

“If I can give you some advice?” I ask, watching as she raises her head and looks at me, waiting for my words. “Give Dwayne a real chance. Despite everything, he still came back, Jessie.”

“I know, and I’m going to try. I just need to sort myself out because what I did was wrong. I’m going to be a mom, and what I did was awful,” she admits, remorse evident in her voice.

“You can still have your place and your job if you wish,” I offer. “I want to pretend you don’t exist, Jessie, but it won’t be possible. So, this is me trying to give you another chance. You have your apartment, and you have your job back. I know that will help ease your father’s worries.”

Knowing her father’s concerns about her whereabouts, it’s important that he knows where she works and lives. Jessie looks at me, hurt in her eyes, and speaks softly. “He told me he wished I was never born.”

All I can do is nod, as I understand the pain of such words. “Look at what you caused, Jessie. Your dad’s best friend—your dad—is amazing. And if you can’t see that, then you really need to open your eyes more. You’re lucky to have such an incredible dad.” Tears finally break free from my eyes, after weeks of holding them in.

“In some ways, Jessie, I envy you,” I confess. “The fact that growing up, you had a dad who did everything in his power to keep you safe. You had Diesel to protect you from men. I had a father who paid someone to marry me and then paid them to beat me so I would lose my daughter.”

The words burn as they leave my throat, and I’m surprised when Jessie moves closer and embraces me. After a moment of crying, I step back and wipe my eyes.

“Fucking stupid pregnancy hormones,” I muttered, attempting to lighten the mood. We both laugh.

“At least you just cry,” Jessie responds, her voice filled with a mix of humour and understanding. “I go from happy to sad, excited to bored, crazy in a matter of minutes.” I nod, knowing exactly how she feels.

“Don’t hide away Jessie, your dad loves you and you know he didn’t mean it.”

She nods and we begin to walk down the stairs.

“Has Diesel shown you his dance moves yet when he is drunk?”

I turn and look at her confused.

“Oh, something for you to look forward to, just pretend you don’t know who he is when he dances.” We both laugh together, and I don’t believe I have had a chance to see drunken Diesel dancing, although now I have a mission in mind.

Reaching the button of the stairs, Diesel and Rooster are talking, and I can see already how much weight has lifted from them both. Fear over what will happen next has now dispersed and they just like themselves.

Walking to Diesel I wrap my arms around him and he smiles down to me, a thousand questions clear on his face. I watch as Jessie hugs Rooster.

“I’m sorry Daddy. I love you.” She hugs him again. “I’m going to see Dwayne.” She disappears out of the door and Rooster looks at me confused.

“We spoke, she understands where I am coming from, and I understand where she is coming from. She has her job, and her place to live if she wants it Rooster, maybe I am a fool but I believe in second chances.”

“Second passed by Serena this is like her tenth!” Rooster states.

“True, but now she has something that tops everyone, including herself and I believe she will change.” I hope I am right and this isn’t another mistake.

Saying bye we leave, Dwayne and Jessie nowhere to be seen when we do. I don’t mind, and won’t complain, they have things to sort so for now I can deal without Dwayne as my bodyguard. I have my own anyway. I look at Diesel and smile as he holds me against him.

I feel hopeful for the future. For a change.

“Don’t hide away, Jessie. Your dad loves you, and you know he didn’t mean it,” I reassure her, and she nods as we begin to walk down the stairs.

“Has Diesel shown you his dance moves yet when he’s drunk?” she asks with a mischievous grin.

I turn and look at her, slightly confused. “Oh, something for you to look forward to. Just pretend you don’t know who he is when he dances.” We both laugh together, and the thought of seeing Diesel’s drunken dance moves brings a smile to my face. It’s a mission I’m eager to undertake.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Diesel and Rooster are deep in conversation, and I can already see the weight that has lifted off their shoulders. The fear of what comes next has dissipated, and they seem like themselves again.

Walking up to Diesel, I wrap my arms around him, and he smiles down at me, his face filled with countless questions. I observe as Jessie hugs Rooster.

“I’m sorry, Daddy. I love you,” she says, hugging him again. “I’m going to see Dwayne.” With those words, she disappears out the door, leaving Rooster looking at me with a confused expression.

“We spoke, and she understands where I’m coming from. And I understand where she’s coming from,” I explain to Rooster. “She has her job and her place to live if she wants it, Rooster. Maybe I’m a fool, but I believe in second chances.”

“This is more like her tenth chance, Serena,” Rooster remarks.

“That’s true, but now she has something that outweighs everything, even herself, and I believe she can change,” I respond, hoping that I’m right and that this isn’t just another mistake.

Saying our goodbyes, we leave, with no sign of Dwayne and Jessie. I don’t mind and won’t complain. They have things to sort out, and for now, I can manage without Dwayne as my bodyguard. After all, I have my own. I look at Diesel and smile as he holds me close.

I feel hopeful for the future. For a change.

48: Moanful Ending

I gaze down into the crib, watching Lilly-Bell sleep, and a sense of peace washes over me. Seeing her brings a sense of healing as if parts of me have been rebuilt. Suddenly, I feel Diesel’s arms wrap around my body, and I lean back against him, seeking comfort in his presence. His words, claiming me for the night, offer reassurance, but I can’t shake off my fears that someone might try to harm her. Sensing my worry, Diesel continues speaking.

“She will be the most protected princess in the world,” he assures me. “She has her guards around her, and Rooster is here.”

I know he’s right, but the anxiety lingers. “But what if Rooster gets distracted or too busy with Lucas?” I voice my concerns, looking up at Diesel.

“Rooster has been a father far longer than us. Trust him,” Diesel responds calmly. “Both babies will be asleep in here together. Just trust him, Serena, like you trust me, and I trust him.”

I feel the urge to argue, to come up with another plan to ensure Lilly-Bell’s safety. Maybe faking illness or finding some other way to keep her close. However, I know deep down that it would be wrong. This is our first night off from work in ten months, a rare opportunity for us to relax and enjoy ourselves as a couple and as parents to Lilly-Bell. I don’t want to ruin it all out of fear.

Taking a deep breath, I let go of my worries, at least for tonight. I remind myself that we have taken precautions, that Rooster is experienced and responsible. I choose to have faith and trust in him, just as I trust Diesel. It’s a conscious decision to embrace this moment of respite and enjoy the time we have together.

Tomorrow, we’re back to business. We’ll take shifts, with me running the city while Diesel watches over Lilly-Bell, and then we’ll switch roles. It’s our system to balance our responsibilities.

After placing a gentle kiss on Lilly-Bell’s forehead, I bid her goodnight and leave the room. Two guards instantly step in front of the door, serving as a barrier to protect her. It should be enough to satisfy me, but deep down, I can’t help feeling a twinge of unease. However, I know I have no choice but to trust in the precautions we’ve taken.

Diesel guides me out of the building and into the car. I sit quietly, gazing out at the passing cityscape. With each bit of distance that separates us, my heart aches, longing to be back home, holding Lilly-Bell in my arms. I try to shake off the feeling, focusing on the task at hand.

We arrive at the restaurant and step out of the car. Diesel wraps his arm around mine, a playful smile on his face. “Behave tonight, you,” he teases, and I shoot him a playful glare that only makes him laugh.

“The last time we were both in this restaurant together was during that meeting,” he remarks, his head tilting slightly. “And the time before that, well, I do recall trying to warn you to leave.” Flustered, I remember that day all too well.

“How can I forget? I overheard her under the table, you were swearing, telling her to go deeper,” I respond with a hint of disgust, making a face, which only causes Diesel to laugh.

“More fun tonight?” he asks, looking at me with anticipation. I gaze at him, waiting for an explanation. He moves closer, holding out his hand. “A little vibration to start off the night. Remember the time I made you lose control with your guards right behind you, completely unaware?”

Part of me wants to scold him for his provocative suggestion, but instead, I surprise him by extending my hand. His eyes widen in disbelief as he hands me the small device. Clearly, he didn’t expect me to agree.

Walking to the small restroom, I look at the device in my hand before slowly and discreetly pushing it inside of me. Taking a moment to clean up, I walk back out and see Jessie, and Dwayne have joined us. As I approach, I notice Diesel’s wicked smile growing.

The vibrations from the device begin, and I almost stop in my tracks, a moan escaping my lips. I try to steady myself before making my way to the table. Sitting down, we engage in conversation, order food, and enjoy our meal. The night seems to be going great.

I can’t help but smile as I observe Jessie and Dwayne, seeing how well they are doing together. It’s evident that Dwayne has taken his new role as a father seriously.

“So, come on then, tell us when this wedding is happening?” Jessie looks at us, and Diesel and I exchange brief looks.

“Already done,” Diesel points out, his smile growing wider. I watch as their faces register shock.

“When?” Jessie asks, her curiosity piqued.

“Before Lilly-Bell was born. Neither of us wanted anything big, so we faked being ill, had the registrar come to us, and had a small wedding. We spent that weekend hiding away. It was about a month after everything had settled,” Diesel explains.

“We wanted to do it before Lilly-Bell was born, and we also wanted to keep it low-key, without involving the city,” I add.

“So, you guys are already married?” Dwayne stares at us, surprised.

“Yes, we even managed to keep it a secret from you and the guards,” I say with a playful smile, referring to the fact that no one questioned why the registrar had shown up that day.

“Well, that sucks. I was looking forward to your wedding,” Jessie remarks.

“You have your own to look forward to,” I remind her.

“Ours is small, like yours, but not that small. Just the four of us, the babies, and Rooster,” Dwayne explains.

I don’t blame them for wanting something intimate. A lot has changed in the past ten months. Dwayne now lives with Jessie, and Rooster has his own small apartment in the compound. It seems he couldn’t stay away from his grandkids for too long. I chuckle to myself, glad to see the changes in their lives.

“So, dancing!” Jessie grins, and I laugh at her words. I know we should stay out and enjoy ourselves, but part of me just wants to go home.

“Sure, just don’t expect me to dance,” Diesel adds with a smirk. We get ready and leave a few minutes later, arriving at the club. As we walk in, I watch as an hour passes by, with Jessie playfully topping up Diesel’s drink, and I can’t help but laugh.

“What?” she asks, looking at me with confusion.

“I find it funny how you’re trying to get him drunk,” I explain, pointing out her actions.

“He’s yours. I can hide behind Dwayne when Diesel dances, but you can’t,” she laughs. I don’t respond, instead, I wrap my arms around Diesel, and we dance together, my head resting against his chest. He can dance, so perhaps it’s just when he’s drunk that he forgets how to dance.

He remains silent, his presence a captivating enigma. I catch a glimpse of a mischievous glint in his eyes as he speaks, his voice laced with anticipation, as the vibrations begin.

“Did kitten forget you have that in there? I plan to make good use of it, right now. So, turn,” he commands, his words leaving no room for disobedience. I comply, turning my back against him as our bodies sway in perfect harmony to the rhythm of the music.

“Time to play, kitten,” he purrs smoothly, stepping backwards as our hips continue their seductive dance. I follow, drawn by an invisible thread that binds us together. In a matter of moments, we find ourselves immersed in darkness, and the sensation of his warm breath caresses my neck.

“What do you see?” he taunts, his words teasingly hanging in the air.

I take a moment to survey our surroundings, straining my eyes to discern any shapes or forms in the absence of light. “People dancing, some seated having a drink,” I remark, trying to provide a visual account from the club’s hidden corner.

“But they can’t see you, right?” he probes, seeking confirmation of our seclusion.

I nod in response, acknowledging the absence of lights on this secluded side of the club. I recall how, upon our entrance, this area had been blocked off, yet Diesel, ever resourceful, discovered a way in. During our previous dance, I had glimpsed this area from afar, finding only impenetrable darkness.

“I need to finish what I started out there,” he murmurs, his words barely audible, and an instinctive urge compels me to lean against him, seeking his reassuring presence. The vibrations begin at full speed.

His voice resonates with a subtle intensity, and my pulse quickens in response. The allure of his commanding nature intertwines with the flickering anticipation within me. In this hidden enclave, desire simmers beneath the surface, yearning to be unleashed.

A surge of adrenaline courses through my veins as Diesel takes the lead. With effortless grace, he pushes his hand into my dress, grasping my breast.

As we stay in the darkness, my moans begin to get louder, the pleasure overtaking me. The air becomes heavy with secrecy, weaving a web of enchantment and untamed passions. My body shudders, as pleasure plunges through me.

Returning my attention to Diesel, I find solace in his presence, tinged with an intoxicating allure. Our bodies’ proximity ignites my imagination, each passing moment rousing a curiosity for what lies ahead in this secretive haven. The music throbs, the darkness envelops us, and his magnetic presence electrifies the atmosphere.

The vibrations of the toy stop, and I expect him to be finished, instead I feel his hand pull the toy from within me. I don’t get a second to think before his hips thrust causing me to scream in pleasure. He doesn’t go slow or gentle. He is fast and relentless in chasing his release.

As my orgasm takes control of my body I hear him groan, his hips quickening in the final moments of our pleasure.

“Get cleaned up.” After planting a kiss on my lips, Diesel walks away, leaving me to regain my composure. I follow his instructions and make my way to the bathroom, tidying myself up before returning to my seat. I can’t help but keep my eyes fixed on Diesel, amused by his antics as he takes a shot. At this rate, he won’t last the night without getting completely intoxicated.

Half an hour passes, and it becomes evident that Diesel has transitioned from being tipsy to downright drunk. I can’t help but burst into laughter at his exaggerated dance moves. Jessie’s earlier comment makes sense now, but I find myself enjoying Diesel’s uninhibited display.

Everything feels perfect in this moment. The city has embraced Diesel’s newfound authority when it comes to protecting us. People are realizing that we are not to be trifled with, and the fear of potential harm seems to be diminishing. Even Jessie, with her wild tendencies, appears to have found a sense of calm.

I’m grateful that I reached out to Rooster. Lilly-Bell now has a loving grandfather figure in her life. From the moment she was born, Rooster embraced the role with open arms. He sees Diesel as his best friend and, in some ways, a son. The bond they share is heartwarming.

Yet, my attention remains fixated on Diesel as he continues to dance with reckless abandon. His clumsy moves bring me joy, and I can’t help but feel an overwhelming desire to keep him by my side. Imperfections and all, he is the one I want.

As the night unfolds, I revel in the moment, cherishing the connection we share. No matter what challenges lie ahead, I’m determined to hold onto Diesel and cherish every imperfect dance move, knowing that together, we can conquer anything that comes our way.

The End…
