Rose sat proudly in her office. She felt that Amanda’s parents were good sources of information regarding their daughter’s relationship with Elliot. Because of the parents’ suspicions, Rose was able to prolong the case and make Elliot a suspect.

Elliot’s reaction to him becoming a suspect made Rose determined to prove that he killed his wife. Narcissistic, psychopathic, and sociopathic husbands who killed their wives always had their reasons. Most of the time, it was due to money, but with Elliot, he already had a lot of money. Rose took out the possibility of money being a motivator for murder but then remembered Amanda’s suspicions of infidelity.

Narcissists are known to be compulsive liars and cheaters. Elliot may have been having an affair, so Rose asked Maxwell to sneak into Elliot’s home and install small cameras to watch him. Maxwell had experience sneaking into homes and undoing security codes since he was once in the military.

It was understandable that what they were doing was against the law, and they could risk losing their careers; Rose was willing to take the risk. That was why she was in her office looking into the cameras, watching Elliot’s every move.

Elliot was enraged that the department heads and Yale University’s President were informed about the investigation. After the notice, Rose immediately received emails and phone calls from Professors of the Law Department about their willingness to help with the investigation. Information was received about how cruel Elliot was and the blackmail he used to get what he wanted.

Permission was given for Rose and her department to question students. However, interviewing the students would be a lengthy task. The Detective watched when Elliot stabbed his sofa and pillows to soothe his rage. Narcissists don’t like their true colors to be shown and are known to have explosive tempers. She then saw him getting a laptop.

An eyebrow was raised. “I thought we had all of his electronics. Bastard, I knew that he was hiding something. There’s a possibility that he has a secret compartment. Once I get the information I need, I will get another warrant.” She kept her laptop on while using her company computer to read more emails.

Alexandria…”

Rose stilled when she heard Elliot speak. She listened intently again and heard him call out a name. “Alexandria?” The emails were ignored when Elliot spoke the name. The Detective returned to watching Elliot, who was looking at his laptop.

“I can’t believe this!? She believes the news!? That bitch Detective thinks that she can get in my way, but I won’t let her!”

“Hmm, who is Alexandria?” Rose decided to call the department chair since he stated he was available anytime.

The number was dialed and rang for a few rings until there was a response. ”Hello?” said a masculine voice.

“Hello, is this Professor Scotsmith?”

“Yes, this is he.”

“Sorry for the sudden call but I am Detective Rose; I’m the one who contacted you regarding the investigation of one of your Professors.”

“Ah, yes! Please be rest assured that I and the other professors are more than happy to help with your investigation!”

Professor Scotsmith sounded relieved and excited to help with the investigation. Rose couldn’t help but believe that the Department Chair didn’t have a good outlook on Elliot. “I appreciate your cooperation, ProfeProfessornderstand it is the weekend and that you’re relaxing on your day off. However, there is something I need your assistance with. Within your department, do you have any Professors or students with the name Alexandria?”

It was momentarily silent, but the Professor said, ”Apologies for the silence. I was looking into some records, and there is one person with that name in our department. Her name is Alexandria Graham; she is a student.”

“A student?” Rose found it strange that Elliot would mention a student. ”Perhaps they are having an affair.”She knew that Alexandria would have more information. “Professor, I wanted to ask if you could send me Alexandria Graham’s information.”

“Of course, I will send it to you right away.”

The two hung up, and it was only a matter of time before Alexandria’s information was sent. When looking at the information and Alexandria’s profile picture, it was undeniable how much of a beauty she was. “I can see why he would interested in her. I wonder if they are having an affair.” Rose looked back at her laptop, and when looking closer, she noticed something on his laptop. It looked like Elliot was watching someone. “Wait a minute, is he spying on someone? Did he put cameras on him without his victim knowing? Perhaps the one he is spying on is Alexandria.”

Rose knew she had to be careful; she got her phone and dialed Alexandria’s number while watching Elliot. Though the noise was faint on her screen, a phone rang. It was too much of a coincidence.

“Hello?”

The same response echoed on the computer screen.“So he is spying on her—sick bastard.”Rose composed herself. “Hello, is this Alexandria Graham?”

“Yes, this is she. Who am I speaking with?”

“Alexandria, please listen carefully. I am Detective Rose, and I am doing an investigation that has something to do with Professor Elliot. Walk out of your home; this is not a joke.”

It was silent on the other end, and Rose knew Alexandria was skeptical and cautious. “What are you talking about? I-”

“You are being watched and listened to, not by me, but by someone else. If you want to know more, please leave your home so our conversation will not be listened to. Trust me; I will explain everything.” Rose remained focused on her screen as she watched Elliot eye his laptop.“Please, believe me,”she thought. Alexandria was heard talking to someone else, and there was scuffling on the other end.

“Okay, I just walked out. Again, who is this?”

“I am Detective Rose from the police department. I was able to contact you since the Department Chair of Law gave me your information.”

It was silent, and Rose knew Alexandria had a lot of information to take in. ”You said something about being watched. Who is watching me?”

“I know you have many questions, but we shouldn’t speak on the phone. Please come to my office today, as I need to ask you questions about Professor Elliot Landon. Also, there are other things I wish to discuss. I will text you the address; the front desk workers will inform me of your arrival. Also, don’t tell anyone or speak about where you are going publicly. As mentioned, you are being watched. I will see you soon.” The Detective hung up and sighed while watching Elliot, who looked engrossed in his laptop but also seemed to be doing other work while keeping an eye on her.

The situation was getting dangerous, and Detective Rose felt that time was of the essence.

22: Informational

Alexandria never thought she would be in a law enforcement building and was nervous about what would transpire. After the phone call, Quinn was asked to leave since Alexandria had to run another errand. Now, standing in front of the building, Alexandria had many questions; Rose mentioned that someone was watching her.

It made her skin shiver to think of someone watching her every move. “Might as well get my answers.” The young woman entered the building and saw a few officers here and there and many people waiting to be called. When going to the front desk to ask for Detective Rose, the workers informed her that the Detective would be notified. Alexandria was instructed to wait until the Detective’s arrival.

Eight minutes later, Detective Rose arrived and saw Alexandria looking at her phone while waiting. “Alexandria Graham?”

“Huh?” Alexandria looked up and saw the older woman; she looked good for her age. “Yes, that’s me,” she said while standing up.

“I am Detective Rose, the one who called you.” Rose motioned her hand to Alexandria, who looked hesitant but eventually shook her hand. “I know this must feel awkward and concerning to you, but you will have all your answers. Please follow me.” The two women entered the building until they arrived at the Detective’s office. The office was well-kept, but a few piles of paperwork were on the desk and in the other cabinets. “Apologies for the slight mess. I tend to have a lot of paperwork to do.”

“No worries, detective.” Alexandria sat down while looking at the office.

The Detective couldn’t help but glance at the young woman who admitted she was beautiful. “Would you like anything to drink?”

“No thank you. I think you know what I really want.”

Rose nodded as she sat behind her desk. “I see that you would instead get to the point. Understandable. Now, I am sure that news spread about what is happening with Professor Landon and that you were informed about it.”

“Yes, Detective. My friend came by today and showed me online. It was a shock but I don’t understand why I am needed.”

Taking out some documents and a pen, Rose eyed the young woman. “What is your relationship with Professor Elliot?”

The question was unexpected.

Relationship?

“He’s just my Professor. I will be honest, my classmates and I don’t have a positive outlook on him.”

“Why is that? Is he strict in his teachings?”

Alexandria sighed while crossing her arms. “You can say that, but it was more than that. The way he taught his lessons made it look like the Professor wanted his students to fail. It also felt that he enjoyed making his students fail and be miserable.”

“So, Elliot enjoys making his students suffer, but judging the way Alexandria speaks and sits, she holds confidence. I wonder…” Rose looked at the documents in her hand; the documents contained Alexandria’s grades. She had good grades, and when looking at her grade in Elliot’s class, she had a solid A. When looking at the other students’ grades, they had Ds and Fs, making Alexandria stick out. “What I see here is that you’re the only one in the class who is passing.”

The young woman raised an eyebrow; she knew that many of her classmates struggled in Elliot’s class. She didn’t know that they were failing; realization hit her. “Wait, are you suspecting that Professor Elliot and I are…” Alexandria couldn’t help but feel offended.

The folder was put down, and Rose sat rigidly on her chair. “I can see that you have a sense of integrity, Alexandria. You must understand my position. Professor Landon is suspected of killing his wife and he mentioned you in his private time.”

Alexandria was confused, but a part of her suspected that her Professor eyed her differently than the others. A thought lingered in her mind. “What do you mean by ‘private time’? I feel that you’re keeping something from me. When you called me, you also stated that I was being watched.”

“Look, I don’t know, and you don’t know me, Alexandria. Through our discussion, you showed that you are honest and sincere and that you and your Professor have nothing going on. What I meant about you being watched is that there’s the possibility that Professor Landon put cameras in your home.”

“E-Excuse me?” Alexandria violently flinched while processing what she was told. “H-H-How is this e-even possible!? Professor Elliot doesn’t know where I live and let’s say I believe you. How do you know that he put cameras in my place?”

Silence reigned. Rose looked at her computer and slowly faced it toward the young woman. “I will be upfront. I am doing something that will cost me my career and be sued to kingdom come. However, Professor Elliot is dangerous, and I believe he has an unhealthy interest in you. Have you noticed the way he speaks or treats you?” Alexandria didn’t answer; she was still processing the news. Rose couldn’t blame her, and she continued. “Look.” Rose played a recorded video when Elliot returned home after their third interrogation.

Alexandria paid attention and couldn’t believe what she witnessed. Elliot was stabbing the sofa and pillows with blinded rage. It was frightening to see. “How did you-?”

“As I mentioned, I’m doing something illegal that even my superiors don’t know. I asked someone to put cameras in his home without a warrant or permission. The reason is because he is highly dangerous, especially since he is a lawyer. Keep watching.”

The video then showed Elliot in his study watching his laptop. Alexandria could make out some sounds and heard herself and Quinn; her eyes widened. “What the hell. He was…spying on me? How did he-?”

“I know this is a lot to take in, and I’m sorry to dump all of this on you. Elliot is far more dangerous than we both could have imagined. He may also have dangerous connections and skills, henceforth knowing where you live. I am getting another warrant to search his home and online history to show his guilt. I am getting close to gathering evidence to put him on trial for his wife’s murder.”

Alexandria couldn’t stop looking at the screen and Elliot’s image. Whenever teaching class, Elliot always looked arrogant and proud. Seeing Elliot’s other side, it was nothing more than insanity and violence.“Am I the motivation for him killing his wife?”Guilt overwhelmed her, and it made her feel like a murderer.

The Detective observed Alexandria and softened her expression. “You feel guilty, don’t. Elliot is a narcissistic sociopath who killed out his unrealistic fantasies. You have nothing to do with what he did; if you don’t accept that, it will destroy your consciousness. Now, since there are cameras in your home, it’s best if you stay somewhere else. If you return to your place and pack, I fear Elliot may try to do something that will make him destroy evidence. I will contact you about any updates. Understand?”

“Y-Yeah.” Alexandria stood up and walked out of the office. Dread and fear overwhelmed her, and she thought about her Professor spying on her. How long was he spying on her? Her eyes widened, and she realized the possibility of spying on her in her most explicit moments. She wanted to cry in disgust. Going home was out of the question, and she considered her options. Going to her friends was an option, but they didn’t have much space in their flat, and Alexandria didn’t want to intrude.

There was another, but Alexandria wanted to talk it out. She got her phone while walking out of the station. The phone rang until there was an answer.“Hello?”

“Hello, Professor Richard. I need to talk to you again. It’s an emergency.”

23: Solution

Alexandria waited in the University’s library; she couldn’t believe her situation. Professor Elliot was spying on her, and many thoughts came to her. She wondered if he saw her in her most private and vulnerable moments. There were times when she masturbated, and the thought of him watching her made her feel like trash.

“Alexandria?” Richard arrived while taking some breaths.

“P-Professor. I know that we just saw each other but something happened today that I didn’t know who else to call.”

Richard was shocked initially when she called him. Meeting his student alone many times would be deemed suspicious and against University policy. By looking at Alexandria, he knew something was wrong. “What happened?” He listened intently to Alexandria about Elliot being a suspect of killing his wife, being interrogated by a Detective, and Elliot putting cameras in her home.

Everything was surprising, and some of his mind found it hard to believe. Richard took out his phone and typed Elliot Landon’s name. His eyes widened when he saw that everything he was told was true; Elliot was suspected of murdering his wife.

“I know you have a hard time believing me, even I am still processing everything. The Detective showed me that Elliot was spying on me! All those times I caught him looking at me in a certain way whenever he taught. How uncomfortable I felt whenever I was in his class! My god! That sick bastard has a sick attraction to me!” Alexandria covered her face as tears formed and dripped onto her hands. “I’m so scared that I don’t know what else to do! I don’t want to call my best friends for help for I’m afraid that I’m going to put them in danger! I called you because I needed your advice!”

People in the library looked at the duo; Richard noticed and motioned his student to go to a private section of the library. “It’s okay, I understand. Take deep breaths.” Alexandria followed his directions as she took deep breaths. “Okay, you are in a precarious position and I also understand that you don’t want to put your friends at risk. You said that Elliot put cameras in your home, how does she know this?”

“Sh-She mentioned about breaking a law where she had cameras installed in Elliot’s home and it showed him watching me.”

Richard sighed as he massaged his forehead. He knew the Detective broke many laws that could lead to lawsuits and loss of one’s position. If the Detective was taking a risk, Elliot was not trifled with or taken lightly. Looking at Alexandria made him feel worried for her.

Alexandria trusted him.

“Okay, until Elliot is being put behind bars, you’re not safe. I have an idea and I was want to be sure if you would be okay with it. I own another condo that is thirty minutes from the University. I can pick you up early in the morning to drop you off the University so no one gets the wrong idea.”

The proposition was all of a sudden. Living far from the University had its difficulties, but she was at possible risk. If Elliot was capable of possible murder, then she didn’t know what else he was capable of with her. “Are you sure about this? I-I don’t want to intrude into your private life.”

“Don’t worry about it. You called because you needed advice and I gave you a solution. Besides that extra condo is empty and the last people I rented it to left three months ago. It kind of hurts to leave it with no one. I insist.”

Alexandria felt slightly awkward going into one of Richard’s properties since he was her Professor. Yet, being at home wasn’t an option since Detective Rose would go there to get evidence. The cameras would lead her to him; it was only a matter of time. “Okay, I’ll do it. Thank you so very much! It’s just that…”

“I appreciate you trusting me with this. I will speak with the Head of the Department tomorrow morning about the situation. If Elliot has a sick attraction toward you, we will help to keep you safe.”

“Maybe I should get some clothes and-”

“Don’t. If he is spying on you, he will question why you are getting some clothes and leaving. Elliot is no fool; he will suspect something is amiss when you are not home for a long period of time. I will buy you some clothes.”

Alexandria’s eyes widened. “There’s no need! I have my own money and-”

“I insist besides, it’s pointless to argue with your Professor.” Richard winked at her and motioned out of the library toward the parking structure.

The young woman felt safe for the moment and hoped that Elliot would soon be locked up. However, her situation was a slight blessing since she would be staying in a condo owned by Richard.“Maybe I have more of an opportunity to hang out more with him.”

24: Agreement

“Alexandria.”

“Hmm, who is calling me?” Alexandria felt that she was floating in mid-air in darkness. She looked around her to see if there was something.

Nothing.

She looked around and walked forward to find ant forms of life.

“Alexandria.”

The young woman stopped in her tracks; the voice sounded masculine. “Richard, is that you?” There was no response, and Alexandria became nervous. She was about to call again but felt her feet wrapped in something hard and cold. When looking down, her eyes widened.

Chains.

Her feet and legs were chained. Other chains appeared within the darkness and went toward Alexandria. She tried to get away, but the chains on her feet and legs were so tight that it refrained her from moving. The other chains wrapped around her body; Alexandria screamed.

Suddenly, a firm, strong hand emerged from the darkness, covering Alexandria’s lips. The young woman was consumed with fear. She couldn’t turn her head, but when she glanced, her eyes widened.

“You will soon be mine.”

“AAAAHHH!” Alexandria woke up and sat up from the bed, looking around. “It was a dream.” She remembered that Richard had let her sleep in his condo. The condo was bigger than her home, and more than six people could fit in it.

When looking at the time, it was 7:15 am, and it was almost time to go to her first class, which would be with Richard. He mentioned picking her up early; Alexandria didn’t want to be late. She got out of bed, dressed, and got her things for her classes. Just as she was about to get out, her phone vibrated; Richard informed her that he was outside the condo parking lot.

The young woman locked the doors with the keys she had been given and went down to the parking lot outside the buildings. Upon arrival, Richard was seen standing out of his car. When he noticed Alexandria, he smiled. “Good morning. I hope you slept well.”

Alexandria stopped before him as she clenched her folder and textbook. “I did, to an extent. Again, you don’t know how much I appreciate this.”

Richard opened the passenger door and motioned for her to enter. She did, and Richard drove on the road with the door closed, going to the driver’s side. “Again, it is my pleasure helping you out. Did you eat breakfast?”

“No, I woke up late. Don’t worry, I can survive until lunch.”

The Professor noticed Alexandria’s fidgeting fingers. “Did you have a nightmare?”

“Huh?” The young woman got out of her thoughts. She was surprised at how easily Richard could read her. It was pointless to try to hide what she was thinking. “I did. I dreamt being wrapped around in chains in the dark and Elliot was…”

“I see. I think it’s best not to speak more of this. You’re going through a lot right now. Let’s grab a quick Starbucks.” Alexandria was about to intervene to pay, but Richard beat her to it. “I would not allow a lady to pay for me. I wouldn’t have bothered if I couldn’t afford it.” He stopped at a Starbucks close to the University, where he ordered what they both wanted.

Alexandria couldn’t help but feel her heart beat rapidly whenever she glanced at her Professor. It wasn’t professional or right for a Professor and student to be in their particular situation. She couldn’t deny it but felt excited to do the forbidden. Once their drinks and food were paid for, they were on the road again until they arrived at the University’s parking lot. “Thanks for the breakfast. You have done so much for me. I-I was hoping to pay you back. Maybe when you’re done with work and I’m with my classes, I can buy you dinner.”

Richard chuckled as he took a sip of his coffee. Whenever he went on dates, he was the one who always paid. His mother raised him to be a gentleman, but Richard was careful about who he dated since many women would always jump at the opportunity to get a free meal. However, Richard wasn’t innocent either, as he would sleep with the women he dated, and many of them were attracted to him due to his status and looks. Alexandria was different; she was the first to offer to pay anything.

He knew it wasn’t right, but it made him feel good.

The young woman thought Richard would reject the offer and decided to change it. “Or how about this: I can cook you something! My friends always tell me that I’m a natural. Tell me what you like, and I will make it!”

A home-cooked meal sounded good. The Professor knew how to cook specific recipes but didn’t consider himself the greatest. It wouldn’t hurt to eat alone in his condo with his students. “I-I guess you could say I love a good medium-rare steak with some vegetables. Tell you what, we can go to the grocery store and get the ingredients. My last class will end at 4 pm.”

“My last class will end at 3:45 p.m., so it will be perfect!” The two got out of the vehicle and walked straight to the campus. “Well, I will see you later, Professor,” Alexandria said in a low and almost seductive voice. She then walked away, leaving Richard alone.

Richard massaged the back of his neck. “I feel that I’m in trouble.”

25: Escape

Elliot felt something was off; he hadn’t seen Alexandria. It was odd that she was out all night. He thought that she was out with friends and stayed for the night. There was a sensation in his stomach that something was going to happen.

He had a difficult time sleeping throughout the night. The Professor didn’t want to do it, so he went online to search for his name. When hearing Alexandria and her friend speak about him being a suspect, he wanted to know how far the news spread was. The Yale News only spoke about University events or anything positive about the campus.

To his dismay and outrage, the news of him being a suspect of his wife’s murder was headline news. Unfortunately, it wasn’t put on the low since he was a Professor at Yale University.

For the first time, he felt trapped on all sides. Elliot was an expert on certain things when deleting evidence, but he couldn’t delete everything quickly. Students and Professors would be interviewed, making him look guilty.

It was only a matter of time before Rose got another warrant to search his home. His laptop and other information could be hidden, but he felt Rose had another trick. Elliot was on his laptop, researching and watching Alexandria’s home. The sound of the door opening came within Alexandria’s home. He looked into the camera, and to his confusion, it was a man he didn’t recognize. The man looked like a janitor but wore a white uniform and cap.

Elliot thought the man unimportant and was about to continue his research but noticed that the ‘janitor’ was looking around Alexandria’s home. The Professor watched intently and remembered that dorm students and other apartments don’t have room service. However, Janitors would only clean something significant or when they were called. What was also noticeable was that the ‘janitor’ was looking upward at the ceiling and walls; he was looking for something.

While watching, Elliot believed that the man was not a janitor. His eyes widened while he was standing up from his seat. “Damn it! That bitch contacted Alexandria and…wait, is he looking for…” The man looked upward, and his suspicions got the best of him. “Is he looking for the cameras!? How!?”

The man could have been part of law enforcement, but Elliot wondered how law enforcement knew about the cameras. He felt his throat turning warm.

Elliot felt…nervous.

It was difficult to accept that Elliot was feeling nervous. Killing his wife wasn’t tricky, and he didn’t feel guilt. However, people finding out what he had done was nerve-wracking; Elliot refused to feel powerless.

A possibility came to mind: if Elliot had snuck into Alexandria’s home, it might have been done to him. He immediately stood from his seat as a drip of sweat formed. Elliot looked around his room to try to find a camera. He knew he could sue law enforcement for invasion of privacy and breaking the Fourth Amendment. However, it would be pointless because if Elliot was being watched, they would know what he had been doing.

Checkmate.

The Professor knew that the Detectives watching could lose their jobs even if he sued. It wouldn’t matter since there was proof of him trying to destroy evidence. Not only that but it would also be known that he was spying on Alexandria.

Everything was going downhill for him, and it was only a matter of time before a warrant for his arrest was issued. Elliot knew he was trapped, but he refused to be mocked. He decided to take action: escape. Elliot immediately went to his room, where he got his suitcase and packed as many clothes as possible. He also got the money he had hidden.

Afterward, his laptop, some paperwork, and flash drives were packed. While packing, something caught his eye at the top corner of his study. There was a tiny black dot; it was a camera. Elliot couldn’t believe he hadn’t caught it in the beginning. “Damn it.” He wanted to take it down, but there was no time, and he didn’t want to seem too suspicious. Once finished packing, a sound was heard from afar: sirens.

Elliot knew that they were coming for him to give him the warrant; it was his cue to go. He immediately left his house with everything he needed and got to his car before the police could reach him. “It was the bitch who planned everything! I can’t believe a woman has played me in my game! I would have enjoyed suing her and destroying her career and reputation, but I underestimated that woman!”

The car was turned on, and Elliot immediately drove from his home in a different direction from where the sirens were coming from. He owned many homes, but it would be evident if he hid in any of them. There was another option, but it would put him at more risk.

It didn’t matter; Elliot refused to be caught and would do anything to keep his freedom.

26: Orders

Detective Rose drove like a maniac, and Maxwell sat in the passenger seat, fearing for his life. “R-Rose, you have to slow down! You almost got into three accidents!” He was ignored; Rose was focused on the road.

She had the warrant to put Ellior behind bars while looking into his home. A disguised detective was sent to Alexandria’s home to find the cameras. There was the possibility that Elliot was still watching Alexandria’s home, but hoped he didn’t suspect of being watched himself. Even if Elliot tried to sue her, it would take a while to process lawsuits. Rose would have time to take off the cameras before Elliot could find them.

The Detectives arrived at the street that led to Elliot’s home, but they weren’t traveling alone. A couple of police cruisers also followed behind them. Even though Elliot was one man, he wasn’t someone to be underestimated. They finally arrived at the house and noticed that the gates were open.

Rose’s blood ran cold.“There’s no way he could have escaped!”She stepped onto the gas pedal, making the car speed through the open gates. Maxwell squealed loudly, thinking it was his last day on earth. The car swirled until it was neatly stationed. Rose parked the car, immediately got out, took her gun, and ran toward the house.

“Damn it, Rose! You almost made me piss myself! I thought I was going to wear my fourth pair of underwear!” He also got out of his car as the police patrols finally arrived.

When she reached the doors, Rose was about to kick them open when she noticed one was slightly open. Her eyes widened, and she kicked the doors. “Elliot Landon!” There was no response, so Maxwell and the other police officers arrived. “Search around the house, make sure to look through everything!” Everyone split up; some went outside while others walked around inside.

Detective Rose immediately ran to Elliot’s study, where the cameras were. She called the Professor, but it was the same; there was no response. When arriving at the study, Rose noticed that his study was clean but that some things were missing. While watching him, she remembered another laptop that Elliot kept hidden. She believed the laptop contained all the information about his misdeeds and was vital for court use.

Maxwell eventually got to the study. “Rose, what are you-!?”

“He’s gone.”

“What?”

Rose kicked the desk as hard as she could, leaving a crack. “He’s gone! He escaped! Elliot probably saw the officer in the camera! I thought we could fool him slightly, but he figured it out! I should have come here sooner!”

“Look, we can’t beat ourselves up. If he just left, then there’s the possibility that he hadn’t gone far. We still have a chance to capture him. I will call for more backup and-”

“I want the backup to make stops in different parts of the city, to contact his banks and freeze any accounts and assets he has. Also, we need to check if he owns other properties and to immediately go there if he’s hiding there.”

Maxwell wanted to discuss the other possibility but debated whether it was a good idea since Rose was in a bad mood. “I don’t want to mention this, but I have to. What would happen if Elliot left the state?”

Both were silent; Rose did think of the possibility of Elliot leaving the state, but she refused to allow him to do so. “I doubt he left the state. However, we can’t ignore that as part of his plan. I want you to call the other Detectives to make calls to law enforcement about Elliot, and there should be stops to ensure that he is caught.”

“Should we put it in the news about Elliot being a fugitive?”

Rose nodded. “We can’t delay the process; he already made himself look guilty. We need to put pressure on him and make him feel paranoid. Elliot is intelligent; I won’t deny that, but even a man like him can be pressured to make a mistake.”

“You said that he was obsessed with his student. Do you think that he will try anything stupid? I mean, she would be extra weight if he is trying to escape.”

“I can’t risk it. He killed his wife and put cameras to spy on her. She is his trigger; an obsessed person will always do anything to grasp what they desire. I will call her, but make sure to call the news immediately and tell them that Elliot is an official suspect of his wife’s murder.”

27: Friends

It was late afternoon, and Alexandria had finished her classes; she felt relaxed. Richard would finish teaching his classes in thirty minutes. They agreed to meet at a coffee place so no student would see them together. She was about to go, but a hand grabbed her shoulder, making her squeal.

Behind her were Jenny and Max. “Heya girl!”

Alexandria put a hand over her heart, trying to regain herself from the scare. “Damn it, Jenny! You almost gave me a heart attack!”

Jenny smiled. “Oops, sorry about that. I couldn’t resist. We haven’t seen you in a while. Max and I were wondering if you wanted to grab something to eat.”

“Thanks for the invite, but I have somethings I need to do.”

The couple noticed Alexandria’s unusual behavior as if she were trying to hide something. “Are you seeing somebody?” asked Max.

“Wh-what!? No! Of course not! You both know I’m focused on school now and have no time to date!” Alexandria felt her face turn warm.

“Oh, I see what’s going on. You like a guy, and you don’t want to tell us. Well, if you don’t tell us, we will have to figure it out ourselves.”

Alexandria sighed but thought speaking out in public wasn’t a good idea, so she motioned her friends to a section of the University where they would get privacy. “Okay, look. What I am about to tell you will be hard to believe. You guys promise that whatever I am going to tell you will stay between us and no one else should know. Promise.”

The two nodded, and Alexandria told them what was happening and what Elliot had done. She then explained what Richard offered her but didn’t tell them about her cooking for him. Jenny and Max listened intently, stunned. They also couldn’t help but feel concerned for Alexandria. “So, what are you telling us is that your Professor put cameras in your place to spy on you? This exact Professor is also suspected of killing his wife?”

“Y-Yeah, I told you that it would be hard to believe.”

Max was having difficulty believing it, but knowing Alexandria, he knew she wouldn’t lie. “You’re also telling us that Professor Richard is helping you out by letting you stay in one of his condos?”

“Like I said before, Max. The Professor is kind enough to let me stay in his condo until I am cleared to go back. I spoke with the Detective and she said that I will be called if everything is ready.”

Jenny shook her head. “Wow, that’s heavy. I would have never imagined that your Professor could be so sick! I mean, have you done something that would make him interested in you?” Alexandria and Max glared at Jenny. “What? It’s not like I’m blaming you, Alex. I was just curious because sometimes our actions can confuse some guys. I only wanted to know to see how long this guy held this sick interest in you.”

“I have done nothing to him to make him interested in him. When Elliot introduced himself as my class’s Professor, he showed us what a person he was. My classmates believed that they could overcome his arrogance, but I knew there was more to him. How he spoke and looked at us was the same as how my dad looked at me and my mother. I knew that Elliot was like my dad, a narcissistic asshole, and I refused to quit. I endured every difficult assignment since I still needed the class to graduate.”

Max snapped his fingers. “Maybe that is what attracted him to you. If this guy is a narcissist, they usually want to destroy someone they can’t control. Narcissists usually get jealous of someone who is more successful or can’t be tamed. There’s a possibility that this asshole was doing everything in his power to destroy you, but you always came out on top. Maybe he was attracted how strong you were and wanted to…”

“Don’t say it, Max. I know how narcissists are since I went through it with my dad. Although, what is more frightening is that both Elliot and my dad killed someone who loved them.”

Jenny and Max became silent with worry. They knew about Alexandria’s past and ensured she would be kept safe and try to live life to the fullest. After hearing about Elliot being a murder suspect and his sick interest in Alexandria, their worry intensified. “Alex, you should have told us what was happening. You could have stayed with us.”

Alexandria shook her head. “No, I don’t want to put you guys at risk. If Elliot is ballsy to sneak at my place and know where I lived, then he would know where you guys live. There’s a possibility that he hacked the system and found my address. How else would he know? Also, he could find my history and know about you two and where you guys live.”

“Still, you are living in the home of another Professor. I mean, it could risk your guys’ placement within the University.”

“I know! Damn it! It’s not like I’m staying with him under the same roof! I will get the phone call soon and will move back in my place.”

Jenny sighed but couldn’t help but be amused. “So about this new Professor. If he’s letting you stay at one of his places, maybe you two could…”

“Shut it, Jenny! Anyway, I have to go! I will call you guys soon!” Before either the duo could say anything, Alexandria walked away.

The couple watched as their friend walked away in a hurry. “Damn it, Max. I didn’t think that Alexandria would be put in a mess!”

Max sighed as he massaged the back of his neck. “Same here, Jenny. Still, at least, she is safe for now. Hopefully, everything will turn out good and this Elliot can be put behind bars.”

28: Need

Alexandria and Richard met at their designated spot and drove to the condo. “So, how were your classes today?”

“They were good and peaceful. How about yours? Are you getting used to teaching the classes, Professor?”

“I think I got this in the bag. I know this is not the best topic to speak about but I thought it was important for you to know. Since Elliot is being investigated for possible murder, the Head of the Department and the President of the University are going to terminate Elliot. I got an email from the Department Head of me possibly taking a permanent position.”

“Wow, really!?” Alexandria never felt so happy. Elliot would no longer teach at the University, and everyone in the class would be happy to hear the news. When she glanced at Richard, she noticed how happy he looked. “Congratulations! I mean, this is something you always wanted! Your hard work is being noticed.”

Richard made a left turn while shrugging. “Maybe, there’s also the possibility of them needing a new Professor.”

“Don’t put yourself down. I imagine getting a teaching job in Yale is difficult enough. They wouldn’t have hired you if you didn’t have the qualifications. You shouldn’t underestimate yourself.”

Alexandria may not have realized it, but her words affected Richard, who tended to see the negative in many things. Working at an Ivy League had always been his dream, but he got the position because another Professor was a possible murder suspect. Still, he was able to substitute due to his qualifications. “You’re right. I guess you can say that I am still in a bit of shock.”

“I would be to. I promised you a nice cooked meal. However, with this sudden news, I am going to cook even something more special!” Before Richard could interject, Alexandria continued, “You will not convince me otherwise! This is also a thank you for letting me stay at your condo!”

The Professor knew that it was pointless to try to argue with Alexandria. Deep down, he was looking forward to a nice home-cooked meal from someone else.

Upon arrival, the two were inside the condo, and Richard sat in the living room watching football. He volunteered to help her, but Alexandr didn’t have it. He felt terrible for sitting down and doing nothing, and watching the football game was challenging. The delicious scent of food hit his nose, and his stomach grumbled as he watched Alexandria cook.

She cooked with passion and with happiness.

An hour later, the food was ready. The two sat at the dinner table, where many plates of food were on display. The main dish was steak, and there were plates and bowls of vegetables, spaghetti, chicken fajitas, and macaroni salad. Richard salivated at the sight of the food. “You cooked all this? You are amazing.”

Alexandria blushed while serving Richard his plate and then hers. “Thank you. Don’t compliment me yet until you try it.” She gave him his plate while Richard opened a bottle of white wine. Although she wasn’t into alcohol, she was willing to drink some since they were celebrating his promotion.

Richard cut some of his steak and ate a bit; he liked it well done, and the meat was perfectly cooked. He then ate each food on his plate; everything had good flavor. “Wow, every single dish is delicious! You cooked it with precision, and the flavor is just right! Well, Alexandria,, you should be happy to know you are a true chef! Who taught you?”

“Well, I wouldn’t consider myself a chef, just someone who loves to cook. My aunt taught me some of her recipients and there were others that I learned on my own from watching YouTube. I messed up many times but with practice, I eventually perfected many recipes.” Alexandria took a bite from her spaghetti and enjoyed the sauce; it tasted natural.

The two continued eating while talking about their classes and plans. Alexandria secretly enjoyed herself; she couldn’t help but feel they were on a romantic date. Her heart beat rapidly whenever she looked at Richard. Although she had barely met him, he showed how kind and intelligent he was. Seeing him eat, his moving lips made her feel more for him.

“Are you okay, Alexandria? Do I have something on my lips?”

“Huh, oh, sorry. I was just thinking.”

“About Elliot?”

“Yeah…” It was a lie; she wanted to kiss his beautiful lips to know how delicious they tasted—to feel his soft hair and skin. Alexandria found it challenging to admit her feelings in such a way toward a man, a Professor.

Richard took a sip of his wine. “I wouldn’t think about it too much. I believe that the police will find the cameras in your home and trace them back to Elliot.”

“I know, but I haven’t received a call or a simple text; I’m getting worried.” Suddenly, Richard gently put his hand over hers, surprising Alexandria.“Oh my god! Oh my god! He’s touching me, damn it!!!” She wanted to squeal in excitement.“Damn it! I need to get a hold of myself! I can’t let a simple touch of my crush get the best of me!”

“Don’t worry too much, or it will stress your mind. After we finish, I’ll help you wash the dishes; it’s only fair.” He slowly removed his hand from her, disappointing Alexandria. She wanted to feel his hand again.

Alexandria decided not to argue against it since she wanted them to enjoy dinner. The two continued eating while making small talk. Once finished, Richard washed the dishes while Alexandria dried them. He was everything Alexandria wanted in a man: educated, kind, handsome, and helpful. She was surprised that he was still single.

Was he a playboy?

A womanizer?

A loner?

Or wasn’t interested in relationships.

Once finished, they stood by the sink quietly, neither saying a word; water drips echoed. “W-Well, I hope you enjoyed the food. Please take some with you for your lunch.”

“That’s nice of you. I will only take a little since you took the time to cook everything. You are truly skilled in cooking.” Richard then went to some of the cabinets to get some Tupperware and packed himself some food.

Alexandria watched him desperately, hungrily. His shirt clamped onto his body with every movement, showing parts of his muscular build. How much she wanted him.

Richard finally turned around and was about to thank her, but he felt a weight on him. His eyes widened, and his body became still, making him drop his Tupperware filled with food.

Alexandria wrapped her arms around his neck and shoulders, forcing his head downward; her lips were on his.

She was kissing him.

Alexandria couldn’t believe she was kissing Richard, a Professor, her crush—a man she was forbidden from having a relationship with. She swore that she was going to be a good member of society to make a difference ever since she escaped her previous abusive life with her father. Richard’s lips were firm and slightly wet; it felt good to taste. Her brain told her to stop, run away, and ask forgiveness. Her heart and body pulled her closer to Richard; it would be her only chance to be close to him…to touch him.

When she realized Richard wasn’t kissing her back, Alexandria returned to reality and stopped kissing him. She breathed heavily and noticed how surprised Richard was; his eyes slightly widened. The realization of what she had done dawned on her. “Oh my god! I-I’m so sorry! I didn’t know what came over me!”

Richard slowly caught his breath and remained quiet. Alexandria was afraid she had ruined her professional relationship with him. Richard had done so much for her that she feared she had given him the wrong idea.

“If you want, I can leave. I-I don’t want this to affect your job. I-” She couldn’t finish since Richard grabbed her right arm, pulled her toward him, and motioned her face toward his.

He then kissed her.

Alexandria gasped at the kiss and felt her body become warm due to the action. His left arm was wrapped around her waist while his right hand was on the back of her head, motioning her closer to his lips.

Richard kissed her, his hot breath puffing onto her. She enjoyed the feeling and returned the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck and shoulders. His tongue slowly made its way to her lips; Alexandria slowly opened her lips. Their tongues collided, fighting for dominance.

Alexandria tried to get dominant, but Richard moved his tongue with experience and sensually. She should have known that Richard had more experience. Her hands then motioned down on his back, enjoying feeling him. Their bodies became closer; Alexandria’s breasts touched his muscular chest.

They eventually separated from the kiss, catching their breaths. Neither spoke, but when looking at each other’s eyes, their eyes said it all: they wanted each other.

“I-I don’t know what to say anymore. I don’t know what came over me,” said Alexandria.

“Same here. I was surprised initially but I had a hunch that you were attracted to me.”

“Y-You did!?

The Professor nodded as he massaged the back of his neck. “Well, I had many female students and women in general attracted to me. I could tell by the way they looked at me.”

The young woman looked down, ashamed. “I’m so sorry. I admit you are handsome, but something else about you that attracted me was your kindness and smile. I wasn’t used to it. It was very nice to see someone be genuine.”

The two were silent, and Richard looked at Alexandria. He slowly approached her and motioned for her to look at him. “I understand. What I did wasn’t professional, but personally, I am attracted to your kindness and intelligence.” Alexandria looked at Richard, who was trying to fight off a blush. “I can’t believe I am saying this to a student.”

“I guess you and I have that in common. By the way, you’re a good kisser.”

Richard chuckled. “I’m not going to lie and say I don’t have experience. Still, we will act professional at the University, but when we’re here, we can be more…friendly.”

“Friendly as in…?”

“Only if you want to.”

Alexandria smiled excitedly; Richard felt the same way. “I would like that.” Her phone rang; Alexandria saw that it was Detective Rose. “I got to take this. It’s the Detective.” She walked farther away as she took the phone call.

Richard watched and heard parts of the conversation and noticed how quiet Alexandria was; something was wrong. The call ended, and Alexandria stood still. “What happened?”

“Elliot…he escaped.”

29: Planning

Elliot escaped.

Escaped.

ESCAPED.

The words echoed in Alexandria’s mind so much that she felt she would faint. Richard stood stunned when he heard the news; he couldn’t believe Elliot had escaped. Although he didn’t know him personally, a part of Richard wasn’t surprised because of how Elliot was described and how much he tortured his students. “What else did the Detective tell you?”

Alexandria slightly trembled as she looked at her phone. “Elliot is on the run; they’re looking for him. She also told me not to go back home.” She slowly went to one of the sofas and sat on it, trying to calm herself down. “I-I can’t believe that Elliot ran off.” Richard immediately went to Alexandria and sat beside her, putting an arm around her. “I’m scared, Richard. If he is capable of killing his wife, then he is capable of doing anything.”

Richard couldn’t blame Alexandria for being scared. He didn’t want to cause her more stress than she already felt, but Richard believed Elliot could try getting to her. Alexandria was Elliot’s obsession, the cause of his actions. For a narcissistic sociopath like Elliot, he would blame Alexandria for his situation. The thought of not taking control of someone that they desire drives people like him to insanity. “It’s okay, Alexandria. You will state here with me.”

The young woman flinched as she looked up to Richard. “What? With you?”

“Yes, I will be staying here with you. There’s also a possibility that he may go after me too.”

“But why? You have done nothing to him. He-”

“There’s a possibility that he knows that I am the one who is taking his position. For a narcissist, he will not tolerate someone taking what he believes is rightfully his. If Elliot is tech-savvy then he will try to find where I live.”

“I doubt that he will try to go after you, Richard. Elliot may be coming after me since he thinks I am the cause of his downfall.” Alexandria dropped her phone and scrunched her hair. “Of all the women in the world, why me!? I know it’s selfish of me to be asking and thinking about this, but why couldn’t it have been another woman!? I just want to be left alone!”

Alexandria quietly cried to herself while Richard still had his arm around her. He felt saddened for her; all she wanted was to graduate and create a future for herself. She went through a lot in her childhood and is facing the same demon from her past. Still, Richard refused to let Alexandria go through this alone; he liked her and wanted the opportunity to know more about her. An idea hit him, and he knew that Alexandria would go against it. “Alexandria, you need a break from the University.”

“Break?”

“You know what I mean. It’s not safe for you to go to school while Elliot is out free.”

“I-I can’t take a break from school! It’s my only way to keep my sanity from this mess! I-”

Richard let go of her and sternly looked at her. “Alexandria! I understand that your education is important to you, and I am not telling you to quit. I am just telling you to take a break until Elliot is captured. Do you want to end up like his wife?” When she didn’t answer, Richard continued. “Look, your safety should be your main priority. We don’t know where Elliot could be and what his plans are. We have to be prepared and act safe. What I will also do is contact the Department head and the Univserity President about the situation.”

Alexandria squeezed her hands together, trying to soothe her nerves. “What’s the point? I understand that the department head may help excuse me from taking a break from the University; Yale’s President will not do much. He’s going to think about business and the University’s prosperity.”

“That may be true, but the University should close. When people hear Yale closing, it causes many questions. It ensures everyone’s safety and puts more pressure on Elliot. When families and students find out that one of the former Professors is wanted for murder, outrage will be apparent. The President will have no other choice but to shut down the University. Although, the President will need to be pressured.” He took out his phone and looked at Alexandria. “Give me the Detective’s phone number.”

“You want to talk to the Detective?”

Richard nodded. “Since I agreed to help you; you will have to trust me.”

…………………………………………..

Detective Rose was still in Elliot’s home, and she ordered the other officers and detectives to look around the household. She wanted his home to be seen through for evidence. With much insistence, many compartments were found behind specific frames and safes. Although Elliot escaped, he didn’t have time to take everything with him. There were papers of his previous contracts with dealings within the dark web—receipts and numbers of his former affair partners and much more.

He ran away, and the cameras in Alexandria’s home showed he was guilty. Rose knew she had a case against him and could prove it, but Elliot needed to be found.

She called Alexandria to tell her the unfortunate news that Elliot had escaped. Rose could only hope that the young woman was somewhere safe. Her thoughts were interrupted when her phone vibrated. Looking at the caller ID, Rose became confused.

“Hello?”

“Hello. Is this Detective who called Alexandria Graham?”

Rose raised an eyebrow; the voice didn’t sound familiar, and she became cautious. “Who am I speaking with?”

“Sorry about that. The name is Richard Hart, a Professor from Yale Universtiy. I am also Alexandria’s Professor.”

The call was unexpected, especially from a Professor Rose didn’t know about. “I see, so you are acquainted with Miss. Alexandria?”

“Yes, Detective. She has stayed in one of my properties since telling me about the situation. I wanted to help her out since this involves me, too. I have been substituting for Elliot but was eventually given the full position. Alexandria told me that Elliot escaped and there’s a possibility that he may want revenge.”

Rose walked into another room to get more privacy. Richard caught her interest since she could tell he was intelligent. She could also tell that there was something else he wanted to say. “By the way you are talking, I feel you are intelligent. You have a plan, don’t you, Professor?” Although the Detective couldn’t see Richard in person, she felt he was smirking.“Hmm, I think I might like this guy.”

30: Decision

The building was dark, the paint on the walls was falling apart, the ceilings had holes, and the floor was in total disarray. It was a place Elliot didn’t want to be in, but there was no other choice since the police were looking for him. He wanted to escape the state but didn’t want to risk it since Rose could have called law enforcement of the nearby states about him being on the run.

Everything was going to hell, and Elliot needed to find a way out. He was at the abandoned Westchester Avenue Station. This 1908 rail station was abandoned long ago, but activists want it restored. Elliot knew he wouldn’t stay there long because he wanted to mislead the Detectives and her lackeys. Elliot knew that Rose and the police were searching his home but knew that Rose wouldn’t leave anything unseen.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have the time to get everything out, so he knew important documents were left behind. Elliot wanted to repeatedly slap himself across the face for keeping them intact. There were receipts and paperwork of his affairs; they were kept just in case any of his affair partners tried to blackmail him. He ensured that his affair partners were married or single with different sorts of problems. Research was done on them, and if they threatened to expose his affair to the University or his wife, then he had proof of their problems and sued them for defamation.

Elliot scrunched his hair in rage, as the Detective could use the cameras as evidence. The cameras were also found in Alexandria’s home. He had a hunch that she had been told about them, and it enraged him that she would know what he did.

Alexandria.

Even with all his problems, it was difficult for Elliot to forget the woman he obsessed over. He believed that Alexandria was the cause of his suffering. He believed that if they had never met, he would still have lived his life the way he wanted. However, when Alexandria became his student, she defied and didn’t fear him like everyone else. Elliot tried everything to make her cower to his power, but Alexandria would now bow or fear him.

Her determination and fire drew her to him.

The more he thought about it, the more his wife and other affair partners gave themselves to him without hesitation; there was no chase. Alexandria was the first to thrill him and motivate him to pursue her.

She opened his instinct to chase what was unattainable.

However, he killed his wife and believed he would be able to fool law enforcement but didn’t expect there was someone among them to be smart enough not to believe him.

Elliot looked into the dark web to see if he could purchase a fake passport and driver’s license. He eyed the screen while thinking about Alexandria. He came to the belief that she was the cause of his suffering.“If only she didn’t defy me. If she didn’t seduce me, then none of this would have happened,”Elliot thought.

Even if Elliot escaped, Alexandria would still plague his thoughts. His ego and pride didn’t want him to accept the fact that a woman led him to run and hide. The fact that she made him do what he did.

“It’s Alexandria’s fault.” Looking up from the screen while looking at the dark interior of the building. The building was in ruins, like how his life had become. A thought came to mind: The building could become prosperous again if worked on.

His eyes widened.

“The only way to be out of ruin is to fix the problem.” A smirk made its way to his lips as an idea came to his mind. Elliot’s obsession with Alexandria became more assertive, and he believed she was to blame for his troubles. Meaning that Alexandria had to pay; she owed herself to him. He wouldn’t let her down quickly, so forcing her to accompany him was best.

“It would be best since she refused to fear me.” He remembered the moment he watched her masturbate; the look of pleasure on her face was unforgettable. It made Elliot imagine how her skin and vaginal walls would feel. The thought of him overpowering and taking her for himself made him desire and obsess over her.

That was when Elliot made his decision: kidnap Alexandria.

Elliot believed Alexandria wouldn’t stay in her apartment since he knew where she had lived. She would be staying somewhere else, possibly with her friends. Elliot had to find out more about Alexandria’s friend group, and he knew where to start to get his answers.
